Back Bay Garage Tower | Dartmouth and Stuart | Back Bay

Not really sure what the 3 minute OL headways have to do with this project, but I must say the rendered ghost of the Copley Square Tower in the presentation hurts.

Franklin Park - White Stadium Renovation

On this note: do we all go to the same Franklin Park on weekends in the summer? White stadium is right behind the Zoo - it's not quiet over there to begin with. On top of the Zoo, there are tons of people barbecuing and playing baseball/other games between the rear of the Zoo and White stadium...

    Milton infill and small development

Special master for zoning you say? I want an air rights hi rises over the Milton station and tracks around the intersection, with the station moved under the bridge and head houses on all corners of the newly created square with full density build out and ground floor retail then. Thanks, Milton.

    Roslindale Infill and Small Developments

You know what would be great: redo district zoning for density around the square and have new linkage to fund an Orange Line +1 extension to give the Square and Rozzie actual rapid transit (well, as rapid as our subways currently are at least).

    Offset cubes, for architecture style.

Why is the subway so jerky?

I don't think there is anything official. The red line at least does have (very ancient) ATC already. I believe the new signaling systems would be able to eventually support more automation. Afaik in the US there are no (actual subway) systems that do.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Update on the Acela 2 testing that I saw on a different forum: https://ngec.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/1115B-1140D-NGEC-2024-Amtrak-Acquisition-Final-012624.pdf (page 3). Looks like they are targeting this year for revenue service.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Good luck with trying to eminent domain this from Harvard. The State couldn't get Harvard to play-ball on the Red Line realignment, I don't see the City of Boston having a chance at this. What the city can do, as @Charlie_mta points out, is create the master street grid plan and zoning which...

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

I'd think the garage removal was the really big cost here. I'd think one complete that would incentivize HYM to recoup costs and build what that can.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

If we are being honest - 2035 is probably pretty optimistic for the project in general at this point. 2035 is probably good timing for a station.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Well at this rate we are only 2 years out for the orange line to be complete and 10 years for the Red (assuming the orange needs to wrap up and a ~30 cars a year clip).

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Oh, yeah, fully agree - I mean more to get headways somewhat back to normal pre-pandemic levels which the old cars (if they hold together) should be capable, vs the Orange which simply doesn't have enough cars to really hit anything near peak headways that it needs to get ridership back. Also...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Given Eng and the MBTA's roadmap on slow zone elimination, and performance so far, I'd be warily optimistic for things to get functional at some point late this year, provided they can finally get ahead on hiring that is limiting current headways (even if we didn't have the other limiting...

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that comment was completely asinine.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

That's great news. Some conjecture in other forums suggest pretty aggressive/fast tracked (pun semi-intended) testing from here on out with the new trains hopefully going into revenue service this year. If so, then who ever had the MBTA in the most botched rolling stock order race wins.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Could be off, but isn't this essentially a less than 5% off the estimate quarterly? As far as budgeting seems really not catastrophic.

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

Akin this to a toddler: Oh loooooook, I have this super shiny new toy, I am going to play with this forever! By toddler, I actually mean me, I'd totally be programming those lights for every minor holiday and reason I could find until I got bored. That said: would always be lit up green in...

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

In defense of the garage, afaik it was built in the 60s during the heyday of urban renewal and razing of the surrounding areas. No one back then, who had a voice at least, cared about shadows - at least not in the leveled West End and Scollay Square. If anything much of the modern NIMBY movement...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

I will say from a bit of time in the industry: never use OTAs for air travel, always book directly through the carrier. Vastly superior custom service if things go wrong, and the carrier sets pricing so will also generally be the best deal.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

On the trees: why not just go evergreens? At least they would be green year round (and could have some fun holiday decorations).
