WPI Smart World Research Center | Boynton Street | Worcester

I'm not sure about adding a street wall on Salisbury. The Salisbury/Grove intersection is already a dead zone of brick and stone. It's a low foot traffic area in general and none of the existing buildings seem like candidates to ever have any sort of meaningful street interaction. Putting some...

I'm shocked this is actually happening.

Midtown Hotel Redevelopment | 220 Huntington Avenue | Back Bay

My general impression is they always feel like they have to do something regardless of need. I see the before-afters here and so often it seems like their changes are simply just arbitrary and subjective tweaks forced because they can force them. I tend to think the befores are generally...

Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

The low end Gaggenau coffee maker runs north of $4k. It can make 2 cups of coffee at once. Neat!

If Brutalist architects were trying to say anything it was that they hate people and cities.

    Worcester Ballpark & Redev

I walked over to the park a week ago and from the street above center field thought it looked like a nice place to watch a game. It looks worse in photos than it does in person, especially the corrugated siding. Which isn't to say it's gorgeous but I don't think the photos are an accurate...

Bay Village Infill and Small Developments

I don't think it's nearly as bad as The Lucas but that's not a high bar, and considering the new structure will be relatively invisible from Isabella St. it's not so bad. The back/side visible from Arlington is a dumpster fire but in theory something will be built on that parking lot someday. Maybe.

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Losing the Shreve Crump & Lowe facade is depressing. Especially on that prominent corner. The gigantic windows make it looks like it would be great office space if gutted too.

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

I read that as the point of MjolnirMan's post. I don't think he was being kind to 1960s urban renewal brutalism--e.g., the garage project is great because it's erasing a terrible urban renewal era scar from view. I agree entirely too.

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

No, and really, City Hall is basically the same colossal monument to the mistakes of the past and is literally a block away. The brutalism fetishists really need to be told to choose one and let the city move on.

    Ode to Brutalism

This is brutalism in a nutshell right here. A stylized drawing that makes a structure look good. In reality it would be a mass of concrete totally divorced from the city fabric repellent to human life.

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Would you rather unique structures built by famous architects or samey structures in styles that are generally accepted to be aesthetically pleasing? I'd take the latter.

    Worcester Infill and Developments

I've been through a few times now. It stinks. The lanes keep changing in terms of straight vs. turn from one intersection to the next so you're seemingly always in the wrong lane and just end up straddling both or watching for people trying to merge back in through the intersection. The bike...

    Worcester Kelley Square

I drove through around rush hour this morning... it's still under construction but the peanut is so much better than the previous driving experience. I don't know that it's perfect but it's such an improvement that I think it's a huge win. It's clear how to move through it, you don't feel like...

Ruth Chris location is directly across the pedestrian walkway (to the left). Both were supposed to be built but not sure what things are looking like for Ruth Chris.

    Lobby Renovation/Addition | 175 Federal Street | Financial District

There's a lot of sidewalk space around the building. More than enough for pedestrians still if the glass walls went straight down from the overhang. The upper part of the building doesn't line up with the street (though it might bump out further than the street wall running down Purchase...
