[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Many patrons who live outside Boston or the surrounding towns. The next-door parking access if important for the families that come into Boston and want to be able to get in and out quickly with strollers and smaller children. I realize that's not how Boston works, but for people who aren't...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Re: City Hall Plaza Polar Bar / City Bistro Is there a reason the stairs between City Hall and the JFK buildings can't go? IIRC someone posted about them in the past but it seems like in every proposed renovation of the plaza they're still there. I can live with a few of our children's...

Renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing | Back Bay

The street level interaction is infinitely better. I was over there a month ago and it already feels like less of a dead spot between Copley and the Mandarin. It's great. The hulking mass of stone above street level remains horrible but there is little that can be done about that short of...

    Downtown skyline around 1980

The tower is great but the low-rise portion of the base is awful and basically a fortress with zero street interaction. I think it's a net positive but where you're walking that stretch of the greenway it feels disjointed--obviously not a skyline issue.

The St Regis Residences (former Whiskey Priest site) | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

Re: Whiskey Priest/Atlantic Beer Garden Redevelopment | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport Looks great and it is nice to see a developer want to make a significant visual impact. Whiskey Priest and ABG were a lot nicer before the buildings blocking the view of downtown went up. Now the roof decks feel...

Renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing | Back Bay

The color scheme they went with inside is going to look dated in about 5 years. It's similar to the current late night show color palette.

Forecaster Building Addition |121-127 Portland Street | West End

Is the parking lot next to it ever going to be built? If so this thing won't be seen as easily.

One Canal (formerly Greenway Center) | Bullfinch Triangle | West End

The top few floors are high enough that they should have views of the North End, Harbor, Greenway, and some of the Financial District skyline. This thing isn't a beauty but the more complete it is the better it looks. I don't love it but I don't hate it either. Looks from the windows like it is...

    Gov't Center Station Rebuild

I don't understand why a stairway down with no roof and small elevator wouldn't have been fine. This just seems like a waste of money.

    Paul Rudolph's Government Services Center

That just looks like incredibly brightly colored furniture and carpeting distracting from an otherwise awful concrete hall.

    Paul Rudolph's Government Services Center

*furious nodding* And it needs to be done before some misguided people (who don't have to experience it on a daily basis) start trying to protect/preserve it.

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

1960s is right, but not just in terms of location. I don't think modern rah-rah save-the-planet eco-activist types have much love for zoos.

    Worcester Infill and Developments

That seems to be the purpose of most downtown Worcester projects--just eat some dead space. More residential can only help but this is prime land that deserves something ambitious. Across the street from Union Station (and in turn an hour from Boston), and a block away from Green Street and the...

    Worcester Infill and Developments

The Shrewsbury Route 9 bridge is GREAT. Three lanes in each direction... A huge upgrade. The traffic is already better than before and if the road work on the hill ever gets finished it will be somewhat pleasant to get through there.

Boston's Performing Arts and Theater Scene: Past, Present, and Future

Re: Emerson's Continued Destruction of Downtown Boston Emerson is really owning the transition from good influence on a run-down section of town to soulless neighborhood dominating monolith. The school is what it is but it can't be allowed to mow down any more good things on that block. Killing...

    Worcester Infill and Developments

Bikers are the worst. A physical menace to pedestrians in Boston, and they totally destroy traffic flow at rush hour in Worcester. I hate them. They're like motorcyclists but without any semblance of personal responsibility. I look forward to being roasted by ArchBoston's responsible...

    Worcester Infill and Developments

Depends on your view of Shrewsbury Street. If you mean just the section closest to downtown with Via, Chop, Volturno, the Boulevard, etc. then sure. Then there is kind of a dead zone gap and Rhino, Funky's, Piccaddiccalliccally Pub, etc. on the far end. The downtown side is super busy Thurs-Sat...

Quincy Market Update/Renovation | Faneuil Hall Marketplace | Downtown

There is some discussion here: http://www.ada.gov/pubs/t2qa.txt Basically, alternative standards to provide "minimal access" may be used if historic features will be destroyed by ADA accessibility modifications. If even minimal access isn't possible with less damaging alterations then the...

    City Hall Plaza

Worse, the events generally require a few days set-up and clean-up time that turn the area into fences, equipment, trucks, and a general eye-sore. If it's not going to be built on, then at least turn it into a park, landscape it, and plant away. Right now it really is a parking lot.

    Worcester Infill and Developments

A few examples: 1. Downtown: street corners feature two handicap ramps crossing each street, however in between the ramps at the apex of the corner is a chunk of curb that isn't tapered in any way. It's a major tripping hazard for pedestrians. In Boston the entire corner is simply lowered and...
