LOL Thanks for the link. Manhattan rent prices are always good for a laugh.

I'd like to think that metrication will happen, it's just not a priority right now. After all, there was a line in the 1988 Omnibus bill that stated the US was to convert by 2000 or 2001, but that part of the law was struck down and was signed out of the law by Bill Clinton. People often...

No, Ireland is further along. A few years ago they made the changeover from mph to km/h on their roads and I believe all distances are metric. In the UK, metric signage is still illegal. So, in that regard, the US is farther along with metrication than the UK since metric signage isn't illegal...

Yeah, the UK still uses miles. In fact, much of their metrication thus far has been at the demand of the European Union and it's only been recently that the EU has relented and is no longer enforcing strict timetables for the UK to completely metricate. And even where they have metricated, it's...

High Speed Rail (Boston to... Texas?)

I have seen that. My preferred alignment would be one that puts trains through JFK, but I think the price tag alone on the tunnel/bridge across Long Island Sound would be scary enough before combining it with the overall cost for the rail line.

    Boston population rises to 645K

Hot damn, population at Logan is up almost 600%. I wonder how long it will be until those people start complaining about the noise.

    Boston population rises to 645K

I find it interesting the Central Massachusetts, namely Worcester County, was the fastest growing area. For those of you who might have missed it, here's a graphic the Globe compiled, breaking down the data town-by-town...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Sure, I can understand making a big deal out of a more responsive T - to me that sounds like more something worthy of discussion. And I am impressed at some of the moves Davey has made (though I do not envy that man). I guess I just can't get excited...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos I'm not sure I get the hoopla over 3-car trains on the Green Line. I was riding on them on the D Line in the late-90s, generally on Boeing consists. I realize that it has been about 10 years since they've run with any regularity, but it's not like this...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Actually, quite a lot of 'in the know' people take the CR from Back Bay to South Station (or vice versa) during rush hour since there's a train in that direction at least every 10 minutes and it requires no switching at Downtown Crossing. Not to...

    new HOV lane on 93

Take a look at the Katy Freeway (I-10) west of Houston. They did exactly that and they tolled it. I think that the HOV lane should be elevated since one of my biggest pet-peeves when I would borrow my roommate's car to get to work on occasion was hitting inbound traffic jams at 4pm because...

Don't you mean the state? It's still a lot of money (paid by MA taxpayers) but when you consider the size of the state budget ($28 billion, give or take), $1 million is a drop in the proverbial bucket.

Okay, so who here wants to disect this? Part III. you've got to be kidding me?

Likewise, I use the Facebook messaging feature all the time (to the extent that I recently emailed some friends and had to verify with them - via Facebook - that their email addresses were still valid). However, I've maybe once used the chat feature. The way I figure, I've got MSN and Skype (I...

Not sure how I feel about the idea but I'm damn certain that any tunnelling that needs to be done for the commuter rail better be paid for by MassDOT and not the T.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Cool. Park Street station is probably the one station that can use such a feature the most. I mean, how many times have you been standing on the outbound platform with the intent of going no further than Copley (so all branches are available to you)...
