    Genzyme Plant Expansion | Allston

I have a question about this project. I recall that Harvard beat out Genzyme for the ground lease for this land. So wy is Genzyme expanding? Is it worthwhile to build a lab building if Harvard gives them them the boot in 10-20 years?

    Grit vs.Gentrification

Such places are often easily identified by the sinks in their washrooms; if when you turn on the water, it immediately splashes off the glass/stone/hammered steel sculpture that substitutes as a real sink, soaking the front of your trousers, then you are in such a place. See, e.g. Radius.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's Fish & Richardson is one of the country's best patent law firms. Patent lawyers are different. I'd wager that they care a lot less about the perceived prestige of the firm's address than do the bankers' attorneys warehoused at One International and Exchange Place.

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Re: Shreve, Crump & Low bldng may be replaced w/ new develop I'd like to join the chorus and say thank you to Itchy, CG and Beton Brut. I'm very sorry I missed the meeting. Here's what I don't get: generally speaking, this forum is chock full of people who like development, hate facadectomies...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

^NJ Transit trains are sweet. They're so quiet and smooth, generally clean, and though I've only ridden on them about ten times, I don't recall one ever being even a minute late. The house my wife grew up in has a line running past the backyard, and you can't even hear the train passing from...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Whoa, BB, you're jumping to conclusions. I'm not writing off rail service from Boston to New York. The train is my preferred method of getting between NYC and Boston. But my five plus hour ride the other day is indicative of the problems that make Acela service such a poor excuse for high speed...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Because first they have to build them, then test them and learn they can't make the tunnel turns, then retrofit them, then test them to learn the wheels fall off, then retrofit them again, then have them refurbished because they've been rusting on a...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

I rode the Acela from New York this past Sunday and we had to wait for an hour in CT because of a broken train on the tracks in front of us. A little while later, we slowed down while another train passed us, which I presume was the metroliner that left NYC after the Acela. Frustrating to say...

    MFA Expansion

I like how, in the granite mock-up, they've used full granite blocks on the corner to hide the fact that they're otherwise using granite cladding.

    Commonwealth Avenue Improvement Project

No, Brookline is run by adults. I negotiated a contract across the table from some Brookline officials for a relatively cutting edge technology infrastructure project, and they're sharp, responsible, and forward-looking. I imagine when the T asked for a study, they told the T to go study their...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress St Garage is being sold. I hadn't noticed that sculpture for years, and I just realized I use to skateboard on it (as someone else mentioned doing above). It's awesome for skateboarding--they should move it to the planned skate park under the 93 ramps. I think there it would...

    Urban Ring

I'm honestly surprised that the experience and cost of the Silver Line does not preclude any future bus tunnels or BRT again in Massachusetts, ever. The buses are better than the average bus, but it is not rapid and it was absurdly expensive. It's a failure, res ipsa loquitur. I honestly think...

    DNA Lofts in Boston

By details, are you referring to that strange object that says "Phone" on it? I recall seeing similar boxes in the past, but I can't remember what they're for. Must be some historical requirement thing.

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Columbus Center: RIP | Back Bay

Re: Columbus Center Dear Ned, May we please have our thread back? Calling this "California's" Columbus Center is a disingenuous red herring, and that sort of approach makes you seem like Ann Coulter talking about gay marriage--all frothy and unburdened by reason. While I respect your general...
