    100 Pier 4 | 136-146 Northern Avenue | Seaport

Re: Pier 4 Residential Tower | 136-146 Northern Avenue | Seaport lynqueezy, nice picture on your blog. I presume that's the house on top of the Mondo Condo. If so, I once did the legal work for the buyer of that house. That's one bizarre condo. Standard Ft. Point loft with a house on top. Must...

93 Mass Ave (Other Side Cafe) | 93-97 Massachusetts Ave | Back Bay

This is very nice. My only critique would be the short glass wall connecting the old building to the new one--makes the old facade seem like just a ... well ... facade. But all in all this is a handsome, contextual improvement. Two thumbs up.

The "MERC" at Moody & Main | Waltham

Re: The "MERC" at Moody & Main That is a very satisfying photo album. Immediately made me think of what I think is called the Constitution Center building in the Navy Yard (that gawd-awful red brick bunker just to the West of the USS Constitution), and how sweet it would be to see it demolished.

    Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

I'm imagining the client meeting: Architect/Engineer: "Bore testing shows significant ground water. Apparently, it's the Millers River, long since filled." Client: "Fascinating! Can you work it into the design?" Architect/Engineer: "You mean, can we effectively seal the basement?" Client: "No...

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

I really like the design of this place so far, but I have the feeling that Assembly Square will be a glorified outlet mall. Nice design, no soul. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011 Gov. Patrick announced today that the GLX project will include full build of the Community Path from it's current terminus near Davis to Northpoint.

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011 See this site for an idea of how Boston is planning to address this bike corridor in the next 5 years, and the next 30 years: http://maps.cityofboston.gov/bikenetwork/

^They excluded Samuels. I have no idea what they proposed, but I'd venture that was a mistake.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End Seems to me that the thing to do is have the greenline to commuter rail connection below grade, under those loading docs or nearby, connected to a set of elevators in North Station. And then keep the greenline headhouse...

    The New Retail Thread

I actually think that building is a good candidate for a facade transplant. I think it's biggest, though not only, flaw is the paneling and glass on the bays which look like they're made of plastic. Red-do the bays, and maybe change the windows in the set backs ... nah, shoot, hit it with a...

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

I read that the hotel project--two buildings further down the street from Liberty Travel in the above photo--is going to restore the first two stories of the building facade, continuing the original columns down to the street. That will be a great architectural crime undone, and the hotel should...

4-6 Newbury Street | Back Bay

RE: the 8 Newbury rehab. I prefer what's there now. And I hope this doesn't mean that Firestone and Parson's isn't moving or closing. They always have interesting window displays, and a standing add in the New Yorker. Bought my wife's engagement ring there.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project (Allston) DaveM, your design is fantastic. Solves so many issues, and makes so many real improvements. If the connection between the Pike and SFR road was buried, this would be perfect. It would be simple enough to do a cut and cover tunnel, and...

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

When I said above that this is a little Disney, I didn't really mean that as a knock. They're creating a varied, quality streetscape that I think is intended to look like it evolved over time, as opposed to being plopped down all at once. Which made me think of Disney at its best. A little bit...

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

This is kind of amazing. Perhaps a little Disney, but they definitely seem to be getting this right, if not perfect. This substantially exceeds my expectations. The undoubtedly faux stone facade on the building with the ivy motif is actually convincing, and blows the Seaport Precast (TM) out of...

    Route 128 Developments

A couple of months back I had an interesting conversation with the managing partner of one of the major Boston law firms whose practice is focused on VC work and technology companies. He said there has been a significant migration of VC firms and tech companies back into the city from 128, which...

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Reading about Goodwin moving to the Seaport after being on State for 100 years made me wonder--is it conceivable that Class A+ tenants will start moving out of downtown to the extent that some of these BBTs will need to substantially upgrade to keep their prestige? Is it possible that some of...
