Charles River Esplanade Given Landmark Status

Ferris Wheel, no thanks. Yes: Beer garden, informal performance areas (think berklee students), climbing "mountain, swimming, urban surfing (google "Eisbach"), giant tree swings, ice skating, cross country skiing. I'm excited that there are people with dreams for this park.

    Tremont/Melnea Cass Planned Hotel

Underhanded, maybe-- but nefariousness is in the eye of the beholder. Given a choice between an Arkansas-based business using their corporate development assembly-line to rubber stamp a building into Dudley Square on the one hand, or a chance to give a local business some leverage while...

    BCEC expansion | Seaport

That's not what I was suggesting, but I could see how you would be led to think that. Damn words. What I was saying was that just as tourists seek the Bostonian iteration of old European urbanity, we could emulate the strategies many European cities have taken in redeveloping their own...

    BCEC expansion | Seaport

you can't beat the standard by aiming for "similar"... Boston shouldn't be trying to out-Vegas Vegas itself. The BCEC should be about being next to the ocean, moreover about what distinguishes Boston from other convention cities. The urban condition evolving in the Seaport district is its...

    Occupy Wall St/Boston

Re: Liberty Mutual plans major Boston expansion When you compare the hundreds of billions of Derby, Carnegie and Rockefeller to the tens of billions of Gates, Buffett, or the Waltons you are not talking about the top 1% so much as the top 0.00000001% (put another way, the 1% of the 1% of the...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

He had the benefit of it being his home state, and sharing a border with his home state. Then again, it's 1000 miles from his home state, and on the opposite side of the country from his home state and his home state.

    Worst Proposed Development

I second, even though I think I remember learning long ago that the plan for the docks was in place when the mediateque was conceived, and the designers knew it would not be water-only forever. That said I think it merits a change to the old plan.

Welcome to the 2011 archBOSTON Awards!

what about a lifetime achievement award for individual/corporate contribution to the urban condition of Boston? The initial nominee list would be very long indeed: Charles Eliot, Richardson, Olmsted, TAC, Wheelwright, Bulfinch, Stubbins, Gilman. Perhaps we do it like the MLB Hall of Fame and...

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation District the head-smacking moment of the Airport Silver Line run for me comes when upon exiting the busway, the driver has to put the bus in park, exit, walk to the end of the bus to retract the electrical connections, walk back to the front, reboard, start the gas engine, put it...
