One dollar fares from Boston to NYC

I believe megabus was running out of chicago long before it was on the east coast. Also I remember seeing it in england beginning in the early 2000's

    Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

To each his own, but I love them.... is it great urban design and planning? no. Do they function well? Are they comfortable to be in? I have no clue. But I think they are really beautiful pieces of sculpture. (which is not to say great "architecture" in the full sense, but I had a great...

H&A were pretty middling overall, but they built some gorgeous buildings in Albany

    Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

careful..... after my hometown of Toledo, Ohio made a similar ruling they started getting this: This is an existing, decent (for ohio), Harrison and Abramovitz building from the 70s/80, though I hope Cambridge would at least have some decent standards to prevent something like this....

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Also any idea why the green line has stop signs where it goes into some tunnels? I know that where it ingresses at North Station there is a maintenance access door right after, but can't the workers look before crossing the tracks instead of making...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Apt comparison... if Back Bay's grid was all Boylston Streets, and tethered to downtown by Melnea Cass Blvd.

Most Egregious Impediments to/Gaps in Walking around Boston?

    1. the paradigm of pedestrians needing to push a button to gain access to most intersections 2. Stuart Street between Dartmouth and Huntington 3. where route 9 severs the bike/pedestrian way of the emerald necklace parks (this may be brookline technically) 4. the entire Seaport my pipe...

    SE Expressway

I can see the SE X-way (haha!) from my desk at work, and everyday pity the souls that have that as part of their routine. BUT honestly the last thing this city needs to invest in is making it a better place for driving..... If anything take two lanes away and give acela a ROW it can actually...

    Boston Common Overhaul

shopping districts gave way to malls, markets to supermarkets, and now parks.... If Bryant Park is the model for the future of America's urban parks I fear for this country. Freedom of speech is a funny thing; corporate rights to control speech outweigh an individual's right to make it. It...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

no more than it is a ripoff of office da or un studio, which is to say, i don't think so. It's hard for someone to claim turf on "droopy" architecture in this digital age. I don't know anything about these projects outside of what's on this board, but on first glance I actually read the...

Cost I suppose. Don't get me wrong, I knew the answer when I asked the question (I'm guessing the same is true of your last post), but there are always concessions made to the ideal come VE. It probably had to be cast onsite or chucked, and the designer said "lets do this". They look like...

    Natick Mall Expansion

it's great to have bars with tv's, it's great to have them without. The balance is grossly towards the former, so for those of us that prefer to have a few minutes in the day where we are not being accosted by a glowing rectangle the preservation of those few bastions is critical. Don't get me...

    Natick Mall Expansion

Sadly the James Gate now has one. It is attached to the wall where the screen used to pull down to project when there was a big sox game to watch, but now it is a permanent fixture, and the couple of times I've been since it has always been on. Just beaming whatever stupid game is on ESPN--...

    Natick Mall Expansion

I had started a list (JP-centric), but they all ended up getting tvs put in....... BUT a ray of shining light (or rather of hushing darkness) has broken through in JP at the Haven, in the former Zon's space. I've been twice to the little bar, and both times became engaged in long, ranging...

    Natick Mall Expansion

what are you basing that on? In my own experience (18 years in the suburbs followed by 14 in the urbs) suburbanites were far more entrenched in their communities, knew their neighbors, were actively engaged in what was going on in their community. Not that that added up to much, I'd never move...
