    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's Not sure why the signs were removed other than disassociating the project with the original Filene's store. As for the clocks, they've been stuck at 8:59 for almost 6 months. I'm sure they'll get them working after the project is completed. I'm starting to miss the carillon...

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's Anybody notice the "PARK Open 24 Hours" signs that were revealed when the Filene's signs were removed from the clocks on the Summer and Washington Street sides? I wonder what the story is behind them. Was there ever a garage associated with Filene's?

    Renovations / Conversions

Didn't want to keep the daycare company tower thread off topic, so I suppose this is a better thread for this. Anyway, as of this morning, there's scaffolding on the High Street side of the old hardware store building, so it looks like the old signs are coming down from that side too. (For...

    Ritzy downtown daycare

They're also removing the fire escape as well. I wish I could tell you, Ron. Little changes have been happening to this building here and there for about a year. There used to be a satellite dish and cell phone repeater on the roof which were removed around the end of last summer. When they...

    Ritzy downtown daycare

Yeah, the MBTA Operations Control Center (OCC) is the ugly 10 story, pink granite and green steel building. However, the red brick substation to the right in that photo has NSTAR logos all over it, so I'm not sure it's a T substation. Also, sad to say, they've literally just removed the big...

    Crime, disinvestment, and low density

In fact, I just finished the chapter where she mentions Roxbury has roughly 1/9th the density of the North End. Chapter 10 or 11 I believe.

    Renovations / Conversions

The exterior renovation of the Omni Parker house looks like its starting to wrap-up... or should I say unwrap as the mesh and scaffolding is finally coming down. It seems like all the original ornament was removed (see my previous comment about the pickup trucks) and replaced with reproductions...

45 Province St | Downtown Crossing

Re: 45 Province St Passing by this morning, it looks like they started to hang some of the facade on the lower levels over the weekend. It looks pretty good, but lonely without windows or trim.

    Worcester Approves $583M City Square

When I was in Worcester for Christmas, nothing had yet been demolished nor did I see any construction equipment. I'm heading over there in mid-March, so I'll see what I can scope out.

    Transit oriented developments in Boston

Haven't heard anything from this one in a while... I wonder, if the T weren't so far into debt, would they have ever sold off these air rights? A mixed blessing I suppose. Link

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

I hate to drag up an older thread, but I couldn't find the thread with the discussion about the former, one-story CVS building on Washinton St. across from the Jewler's Building. The search showed zero results when searching 'CVS.' Anyway, I had a you've-got-to-be-kidding-me moment walking by...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

There are two remaining green, steel beams on the Greenway (near Quincy Market and the other by Congress Street) and of course, the remaining open scar. Remembrance enough, no? Unless, of course, we remeber the highway for what it did to the city, rather than just the highway itself.

Photo of the Day, Boston Style - Part Deux

If you liked that, I have one from the Corey Hill outlook that user underground mentioned in the BU tower thread. Admittedly, the shot itself is poor. It's hard to hand-hold a shot with a lens out to 420mm (2x more zoom than the last shot) on a cloudy day. Also, I almost completely blew the...

    BU Development Thread

Re: New BU Tower I had heard that before... I guess that would explain small, Boston Stump-looking engravings on a lot of the metal work above the entryways of the deco/gothic buildings lining Comm Ave.

Photo of the Day, Boston Style - Part Deux

Interesting find, Ron, especially since the passage is from 1960. I could see that being true in Back Bay, with the Prudential Center having just begun to stretch and cover over the rail yard, adding not so much precision but content anyway, especially in the form of the visual landmark that is...

And now, to amend any misgivings from my prior photo, here is a photo which proves beyond doubt Boston is unlike any of the aforementioned cities. Link
