Battery Wharf | North End | Waterfront

Re: Battery Wharf It's not cutting edge, but it's what is needed for that space. I think it's a project well done.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower - Full Steam Ahead! We all know that it will, at its best, look like the central court of the Pru mall looking up at the tower. It will certainly never approximate the grand, glass-ceilinged rail sheds in Europe.

    Tall and Thin

I agree that something in the vicinity of 5-7 floors would be best for the location. Something much taller would not fit in with the street wall and be visually disruptive to that section of the street.

Trump on the hunt in hub: Mogul?s empire eyeing properties

I was in Vegas a few weeks ago and the Trump building is actually quite nice in person. You have to see it in its context. With garish buildings, erupting volcanoes, gondoliers and exploding pirate ships in the neighborhood, the Trump building is actually an exercise in restraint. And in the...

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's I am sure the Filene's name is owned by Federated or whoever the parent company is and, absent some kind of corporate tie-in or retail location on the premises, is unlikely to be used. But I think locals will refer to it as Filene's, much like some still call macy*s "Jordan's".

Trump on the hunt in hub: Mogul?s empire eyeing properties

I go to Miami each November and I can tell you it has an incredibly impressive skyline. IMO it's the most impressive collection of tall, thin buildings on the east coast outside Manhattan. The growth of Miami highlights for me how much impact a city's skyline has on the public's perception of...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

I'm not an airline buff, so I'm not quesitoning the number of flights, but I love parsing statistics, so... Something the number of flights does not show is how many of them are at full capacity. For all the numbers show, the three flights to Paris could be Luthansa, 75% full, Delta, 85% full...

    Tall and Thin

I can imagine some future unveiling: it's... a Verizon store! Surprise! :(

    Dreamproject

If I was feeding my ego, I'd want to design the entire SBW (interesting mixes of residential, retail, office, cultural, tourist amenities, etc.), but if I was to get one project done that would actually be great for the city, it would be the inner urban T ring running a giant loop from JFK/UMass...

    Auto-free city?

A better idea: put tollbooths up on 93 and generate some income off the north-south commuters (I don't know why Pike and Tobin users should be the only ones who have to pay to come into the city) and use the money to fund a better public transportation infrastructure?

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

Has Bailey ever before referred to the Greenway as "spectacular"? We all know any plan for an 800 footer will go through the BRA meat grinder and will come out a squat 400' tall, 200' wide box. The location is not ideal, but a slender 800' tower on the edge of the greenway is, contrary to...

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

My thoughts excatly. Aside from the inadequate light along Bromfield, why would anyone contemplate putting trees in there -- aren't the DTC/Ladder District sidewalks narrow enough already without adding more obstacles? Two people can barely walk abreast on some sidewalks. As for the tarp...

Cheap and easy Boston improvement ideas

My suggestions all center on the eyesore that is City Hall Plaza. I would suggest moving the produce market from Haymarket over to City Hall Plaza. Seasonally, I think the city could open up a Christmas Market there as well. Plenty of Northern European cities have them and Boston could be no...

    Boston 7th in Nightlife Nationwide?

As others have said, I think a good nightlife would include places to drink, eat, hear live music or see some performance, and dance. Boston's nightlife is no worse than many places and is a heckuva lot better than most. You just have to get away from Daisy Buchanan's to find it.
