Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Baker and his henchman/henchwomen are full of bullshit with their fix it first before expansion mantra. We need both improvements to the existing system and expansion in dense areas like somerville. I don't see them putting on the brakes on the add a lane project on Rte 128 until every...

Lovejoy Wharf | 131 Beverly Street | West End

I see the analogy of Rowes Wharf with the setbacks, however, I think the distinction is the mixing of modernism and it's liberal use of glass and it's transition with more traditonal brick in Lovejoy wharf. Rowes wharf overall looks more "solid" and the different facade treatments are more...

Lovejoy Wharf | 131 Beverly Street | West End

i like almost* everything about this building. The texture of the facade is head and shoulders above what we usually get. My only quibble, I don't like the setback/ staircase effect of the brick vs glass transition on the high rise portion of the building. IMO the glass facade should just be...

What building would you nominate for replacement

Back Bay became a landmark district in 1966. I wonder if that building built in 68 was somehow grandfathered in or was already under construction.

    Limited-service Hotel Project | 73 Essex St | Chinatown

I just think we need stronger planning in this city to preserve our assets. This building could be renovated into a hotel, which I'm sure would still generate a return on investment for the owner. Yes, probably less lucrative than the tear down option, but that is the one of the consequences...

    Limited-service Hotel Project | 73 Essex St | Chinatown

From the PNF: "The Project site is located within the Textile National Register District. The approximately three acre district is situated on the edge of Boston’s Central Business District. Roughly bound by Chauncy, Essex, Edinboro and Kingston Streets the district is dominated by late 19th...

Canopy by Hilton (née Haymarket Hotel) | Blackstone St | Parcel 9 | Greenway

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway Java King, I lived at that dorm too (University of Nebraska)! Sorry for the short thread derailment to everyone else who doesn't know or care where Nebraska is.

Canopy by Hilton (née Haymarket Hotel) | Blackstone St | Parcel 9 | Greenway

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway Newest iteration looks fine to me and overall an improvement IMO. Regarding the older proposal which was taller - I can appreciate the fear of overwhelming the historic blackstone block buildings. However, on the other hand, the gash on the other side of the parcel...

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

Bottom line - other than a few exceptions, the major commercial districts are not landmarked historic districts and are going to be vulnerable to parcel consolidation and degradation of urban streetscape now and in the future. The ladder district (and the payless building) are worth more as a...

Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I can tolerate the upper portion of the tower. However, commercial space or no commercial space, the base of the building is homely. To think this represents the epitome of luxury residential construction today is dispiriting.

DaveM's photoshop job just beat the collective efforts of the Boston civic design commission and the BRA to improve any proposed project over the past 25 years.

    BU Development Thread

Let us not forget BU's role in the drastic remaking or destroying (depending on one's opinion) the south side of Kenmore Square with the demolition of a slew of commercial brownstone rows to erect the Hotel Commonwealth.

    Gov't Center Station Rebuild

Went thru there on the way home tonight, the station is very bright on the green line level at least. One question, will they be bringing back the dunkins or allow some other coffee vendor? I found that convenient in the old station.

    Mixed-Use Washington @ Walnut | Newtonville

This project is demolishing 8 separate buildings, including the darker red brick buildings to the far left of the above photograph. Whatever one may think of the merits of added density etc., taking down this many buildings to replace with a single large project is not the recipe for success...

    Gov't Center Station Rebuild

FYI - boston.com is stating 11:45 a.m. ribbon cutting, and station opens to public a bit later at 12:30. http://www.boston.com/news/2016/03/21/almost-two-years-the-day-closure-mbta-government-center-station-reopening-monday/zhSl389nj9TqQjtXdZvB0N/story.html

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

I'd support the project if they keep the payless building, but I'll be very surprised if that happens. Also, what you see there in your pic is classic land/parcel banking. The asking rents are astronomical on Washington St. due to very high foot traffic. There are plenty of forlorn looking...

I'm in this camp; Statler put it better than I could. I'll await renders at this point, but I'd be very surprised if this project improves the streetscape of downtown crossing.

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

I like this pic above because 888 Boylston, the Millennium Tower and the Hancock are all within view. Both the Millennium and Hancock have substance to them when viewed from afar. 888 bolyston's glass just seems to blend into the sky. The glass is a miss, too mirror like or something....

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

My comments pertain to commuter rail, it has been mentioned NYC area commuter rail is on par with MBTA comm. Rail fares. However, the difference between here and NYC is that when transportation needs money in NY they raise tunnel and bridge tolls as well as transit fares. Here, Charlie Baker...
