Take Back The Streets (...and alleys)

If I'm not mistaken, in both of these unfortunate accidents the car drove off the roadway and up onto the sidewalk. In light of the fact that the city has never demanded jersey barriers to protect people walking on a sidewalk it's seems like an over reaction under the circumstances.

Take Back The Streets (...and alleys)

More difficulties for outdoor dining (not just for the North End) New changes for this year: "a 22-page packet of city guidelines that lays out the measures restaurants must abide by if they want outdoor seating, including several new additions this year. Those range from mandatory automobile...

    The New Office/Lab Thread

My 2 cents, many average middle aged Joes who have a family, extensive professional contacts/relationships, who have been schlepping in from the suburbs via transit or fighting traffic for years are probably enjoying the work from home flexibility for the time being. That being said, as a middle...

    COVID-19 in Boston

I'm not expecting much of an impact. There will be covid clusters within college student communities for which by and large covid is low risk. There will be a subsection of young people who will engage in covid high risk behavior on the weekends, social gatherings, drinking, mask off, lack of...

    General Boston Discussion

I think there was outdoor dining/drinking in front of Sweetwater Tavern. Also in the 1990s there was a lunch place opposite of Sweetwater that would set out outdoor tables and chairs on a more temporary basis.

    Lobby Renovation/Addition | 175 Federal Street | Financial District

No, the lollipop building is the large dark building behind and to the left of 175 Federal as shown in the first pic on post #8 in this thread. The lollipop building is the building with long's jewelry store and i think sebastian's on the ground level. the lollipop structure was moved to...

An Tain, the cheap neighborhood bar across from my old office is closing. The liquor license is going to the Hyatt Hotel in the Seaport, so it looks like it's the latest victim of the local liquor license market woes...

Orient Heights BHA Redevelopment | Faywood Ave/Vallar Rd/Waldemar Ave | East Boston

The smaller town house style row buildings do not fit the context of the neighborhood. It looks likes the latest 21st century iteration of "the projects" so if the goal is to integrate the subsidized housing into the larger neighborhood visually, I give that portion of the project two thumbs down

Suffolk U Dorm Proposal (Ames Hotel Conversion) | 1 Court St | Government Center

I agree, first I would think a hotel is more of a "shot in the arm" for this area than a dorm, hotel guest have disposable income and are looking to spend it versus college kids pinching pennies. Second colleges like suffolk and emerson have a horrible track record of putting drab institutional...

    Martin's Park | Children's Wharf | Fort Point

I saw this park in person, it's visually stimulating with lots of nooks and crannies crammed into a compact space. I can see how kids will love it. That being said, I recall the 70's, 80's and into the 90's when the mantra was often to retrofit parks, open them up and increase visibility for...
