Ride & Car Sharing: Uber, Lyft, Sidecar, Zipcar, Relay Rides

One of the more egregious statements by MASSPort about this is: A new garage and EV chargers do not move more people in less vehicles, they encourage long term vehicle storage at the airport which is counter to any climate goals MASSPort claims to have.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I think that is the space provisioned for when the platforms need to be extended to accommodate double type 10s, but I agree it is terrible. Get off the train > open umbrella for short walk > close umbrella to not poke anyone’s eye out on the stairs > open umbrella at the top of the stairs.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Some simple enclosed bus shelters at either end of the platform would go a long way. Wouldn't help much during rush hour, but off peak when headways are longer and wind and rain are whipping at you, some sort of horizontal shelter is needed. Fenway station (and some others on the D branch) have...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Without the street running is it a fully sealed corridor? If so I hope they shift to automated light metro, as the only remaining advantage of light rail would seem to be station cost.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

My understanding is that in the past few years the rules were changed to allow airport fees/funding to go to mass transit projects, whereas previously they could only be spent on self-contained APMs. With that being the case now, wouldn’t it make sense to built the people mover as a REM-style...

Water Transportation in and around Boston

I take the Fan Pier ferry decently often when it’s too cold or inclement to bike(I’m on it right now). Reading the article I can’t tell if it will make the stop in the inbound or outbound direction? NS>Fan Pier>Drydock>NS Or NS>Drydock>Fan Pier>NS As it stands the ferry only beats the...

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

I don’t agree that speed bumps are useless. From my anecdotal experience of living on a Somerville street before and after speed bumps were added, speeding dropped significantly once they were introduced. Obviously they are not the only measure, and I question their value in main streets with...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Building a south Salem station with it would probably be a good way to placate the neighborhood. Would trains in this yard be expected to make a reverse move down the single track tunnel to begin service, or just skip the Salem stations for short turns?
