I know Alkami has their logo consisting of orange text in Kendall, but for this generation of towers I think this is the first significant building without a white logo. I wonder if it wouldn't look as plastic/ inexpensive if white?

I hear you on this, but does that sentiment come from the bias towards this new structure and expanded concourse? South Station already has a grand entrance that offers placemaking through the original headhouse.

I saw this up close and it's actually a black fabric/netting. Definitely doesn't appear permanent, but an odd application. I've never seen a penthouse screen in recent Boston construction have this netting attached to it ahead of the final glass/ panels.

Yes, two vertical pieces that are braced to the core and a longer horizontal piece are up there as of this afternoon; this configuration is similar to what was placed on the building months back before being removed.
