BRA's Kairos Shen's under pressure to resign

He may have been under Menino's control, but he could have taken more of a leadership position and educated people or fought for what he thought was right. As far as Im concerned a half-years salary (if the numbers Justin provided are accurate) is good enough. I know people who went to school...

The Girard | 600 Harrison Ave | South End

Re: 600 Harrison/600 Harrison Ave/South End/Boston I see the retail in the front. I guess what bothers me, but there's no solution for it given that the first floor of this building is essentially a covered parking garage, is that all of those roads from Harrison to Albany are long stretches of...

The Girard | 600 Harrison Ave | South End

Re: 600 Harrison/600 Harrison Ave/South End/Boston I'm not sure what I think of this building. I'm happy that something is replacing the parking lot, but the long wall of... nothing (I guess it's the outside of the parking garage) along that street seems to little to improve the area. I lived...

    Harvard - Allston Campus

Could that be related to the Pike re-alignment? I went to the last meeting around that and recall there being a discussion about wetlands.

    The New Retail Thread

Ugh, that sucks. I was really hoping we would get a cafe or something along those lines. I go to Swiss Bakers all the time but there aren't really many other options in Lower Allston unless you cross the pike.

GrandMarc Residence Hall (YMCA) @ Northeastern U | 291 St. Botolph Street | Fenway

I doubt that it will make a dent but it's a start. I was surprised at the numbers in this recent Globe Metro article (for all Boston public and private colleges, not just Northeastern): "The number of undergraduate and graduate students living off campus in Boston jumped by 36 percent, to...

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

You're questioning whether that has ever happened? I only have anecdotal evidence, but in the early 90's I attended a conference at a design and art School in Michigan. The campus was planned and designed by the original school's President, an architect, in the early part of the 20th century...

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

I had this same thought earlier. Ive always thought the interior would be good for an exhibition space but Im not sure how all of the offices would be used. How costly would it be to renovate the building and would it suit any of the proposed museums. Regarding the plaza, could a tower be...

GrandMarc Residence Hall (YMCA) @ Northeastern U | 291 St. Botolph Street | Fenway

DZH22, I believe the building on the far right in the drawing you posted is the proposed mixed-use tower that Wentworth wants to build (as part of a three building complex) on Sweeney field. The two other buildings will be in front of the larger tower and will be six stories in height.

Kittredge House | Linwood St. | Roxbury

The Globe article described the interiors as being very modern, which bothered me (as a former Historic Commissioner) when I read it. But it looks like lot of the character of the interior spaces was retained based on what's shown in the pics above.

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

By "many in Allston" do you mean Paul Berkely and the Allston Civic association? Hah. I also agree that there are a lot of unrealistic expectations. Yes it has been 10 years, but look at the pace of other projects throughout Boston. How quickly should the purchasing of the land, the planning...

GrandMarc Residence Hall (YMCA) @ Northeastern U | 291 St. Botolph Street | Fenway

I agree. It's even worse in person. It's out of scale for it's context and visually imposing on the intersection/square on Huntington Avenue. I disagree that it doesn't matter because the inhabitants don't pay attention to the exterior, I think architecture owes something to the community as well.

    Herter Park

It could be a great music venue, yes. You could probably find many other uses as well. All of those families that frequent the pool may go watch a movie there on a summer evening, for example (yes, the water is a problem and changes to lighting and landscaping may be required to make it safer).

    Herter Park

I think it would be a great spot for the community as well. I live a few blocks away and cant believe this venue is going unused. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, it's best accessed by car. It's also a shame that the modernist building next to the theater is sitting empty. It would make a great...

Mission Hill Infill and Small Developments

"This is the kind of theoretical architecture that you do in architecture school only to be told after that the real world doesn't work like that. " MassArt uses this site for it's advanced arch courses all the time. I thought it was a very well-done school project until I read the two posts...
