    Silver Line to Chelsea

As I said in my previous post, we are getting 8 of these buses already. The MBTA says 8 will be enough to run this route initially with more on order by the time the service starts. And because making all the passengers get off at Airport to switch to a dual mode buses would be a better...

Except. you're pretty wrong here. I invite you to read the documents online on the DOT's website because you'll understand just about why I am telling you are wrong. Actually I invite anyone to do so to familiarize themselves with the project. I'm also happy to meetup with anyone in person to...

    Silver Line to Chelsea

Anywhere there's a un-used ROW. This isn't the thread for this (should be under "Crazy Transit Ideas") but I often thought the ROW that runs from Malden Center to Linden Square would be a great busway. It's a dense area serviced by many crowded buses (along Salem Street), so it would work...

Me too. Not only because I am a daily bus rider in Chelsea, but it's great to see something moving along with little resistance. We really need this... the 111 is just insane these days now, this will help immensely. I'm very excited to have an almost direct ride to the airport. Taking the...

    Silver Line to Chelsea

The commuter rail station and Chelsea Center Station are apart of Phase II of the construction so it has not started yet. It should not effect the Phase I opening of the busway (Eastern Ave, Box District and Mystic Mall Stations) in late 2016, with Phase II opening by late 2017.

I think they are simple. They aren't really for shelter, but rather to show there's a T stop there. Rather than just a bunch of bus shelters together. These aren't the final designs, I think the bike rack will be much different as will be the vegetation. And I think those middle pieces will...

    Silver Line to Chelsea

As I said last week in an earlier post, I was going to take more pictures of the construction this weekend (9/19/15). Overall construction moving right along.. more grading being done. More drainage work being done. And the most exciting thing is the concrete structures for Box District Station...

Yeah they were out there working... other than work that needs to be done on the Washington Ave Bridge, not sure how the SLG directly effects CR service.. but they were doing something at the CR station in Chelsea yesterday. (I think this shutdown had more to do with the work on the Winthrop...

    Silver Line to Chelsea

I sure hope so. I think they are thinner in the renderings than they actually will be. Plus they will be narrow and sloped, so the hope is not much snow will accumulate on there and/or slide off. Incidentally, Box District Station is the only station that will have these style covers. Most will...

Yup. Thank you, I was thinking this but couldn't get the words off my fingers. Thats what I meant about "show". Meaning to show someone where the stop is as in wayfinding.

Yes which is what is being built now. I mean okay.. I guessed at what is being built but it sure looks looks like cement forms. And I can't think of anything else that would be built in that spot (at least what is in the project plans) I'll be honest.. they won't provide much shelter from the...

    Silver Line to Chelsea

I went and did my grocery shopping this morning and drove the route of the busway after to check on construction progress of the busway. Not much going on, except more grading, but the initial construction of Box District Station has started!!! Here's a early rendering from MassDOT of the...

Yes I have it confirmed that it will be branded as the SL6. (Bus driver friends out of that garage that services the SL buses have verified this) No idea where the "Gateway" came from, just assumed it was 'marketing buzz' for the project. But it does make sense that it would be named because...

    Silver Line to Chelsea

Yep, it is. I went by Market Basket on my way from a clients office today and saw they have now ripped up all the trees on that side of the tracks (the Mall side). They may start bull dozing soon.

    Silver Line to Chelsea

Well time for an another update... I saw construction starting at the Market Basket shopping center, so I figured things were moving right along and it was time to take more pics sooner than later. (I had planned on late August) So I went out yesterday (8/1/15) morning to take some pics to track...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I disagree. First off, we're in crazy transit pitches thread, so money is no object and ideas in this thread are a little off the beam. As a frequent visitor (and have many friends who live in SF who tell me this), I can tell you Market Street streetcar is only for tourists. Same can be said...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

How about a street car line up and down Boylston to mirror the underground tracks? Market Street in San Francisco does this with its Market Street Tunnel. It's five layers of transit on top of each other (BART, MUNI Subway, Road, Bus, Market Street Subway). It could be a toursty thing like it...

Yeah I agree. My transit pitch was kinda crazy anyways (more because we'd need to re-use a rail trail and those are pretty hard to do). I did not take in considering environmental concerns into my design, as it's a off the cuff proposal. If others want to see my proposed "yellow line" what F...

    Urban Ring

Gee sounds almost like the Yellow Line (or a section of it) "crazy transit pitches" post I made earlier this week. I created a busway from Alewife to Watertown Sq using a exiting bike path and abandoned ROW. (along with an entire BRT line to Wonderland via RBP/MVP/MA-16) And I agree, as a...
