If this is where I think it is, the existing building is a very cute brownstone, but crap on the inside. BU is probably itching to demo it.

If we ever decide to go a grand experiment like this I would be the first person to move in. Doesn’t have to be in western mass, either. I’d live in a Chinese mega city in Everett if the rent was cheap. I’ll eat the bugs. Sign me up.

It makes me think there’s serious money to be made in government contracting like this. Obviously there are ridiculously hard aspects to it that escalate the cost. But some smart guy with a bunch of money should try to get some people together and bid way closer to the true cost.

This is kind of the problem of having consultants do the job at all. Presumably what they're not allowed to say is they've been directed by someone higher up to include a series of unworkable provisions. And they can't just say "my client has directed me too..." etc.

No way it is a "near-perfect urban environment" where someone who works there can't afford to live there. Build it. Also, I didn't realize that the developer was proposing a featureless black obelisk. No wonder he didn't want to render it!
