General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I don’t understand this logic. The track conditions (which can necessitate slow zones) and the line speed limit set by regulatory standards are two completely different things. Maybe a road analogy will help you understand the situation better: My street used to have a speed limit of 25 mph...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

It’s actually not called moving the goal posts. You are confusing two unrelated things. “Moving the goal posts” implies that a promise was made, then the promise was changed. In this instance, the promise that was made was that the slow zones would be removed by repairing and replacing the...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

That’s my read on it as well. As a related aside, if we can get to the point where NSRL is shovel ready as a stand-alone project, it will be a much easier sell for Fed dollars. That means taking care of things like electrification, capacity, and accessibility in the meantime.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

I'd rather see the cycle track shifted to be sidewalk adjacent (on the northern side of Causeway) and span the length of Causeway from North Washington to Lomasney. That would have far fewer conflicts.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

He’s right about how it would be perceived at the Federal level. I think our best chance for Federal money that improves the Commuter Rail system (like we got for North Station Draw) would be for smaller (than NSRL) projects like Old Colony Double Track.

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

Oh! I misunderstood. Yeah, whatever light rail pattern is best. Ideally multiple service patterns. Let's be real, we aren't getting light rail to Everett as a result of the Revs moving there, but I would love it in any of a number of different service patterns. Heck, even something silly like a...

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

Whether it terminates in Chelsea or Everett, the concept is the same. ... Encore / Revolution Sullivan Lechmere Science Park / West End North Station ... A Sullivan superstation on the Haverhill, Newburyport, Rockport Lines would complement this proposal well regardless.

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

The MBTA should start politicking and present the cost for a Green Line branch to Everett via the Lechmere Viaduct, the Grand Junction right-of-way, Sullivan, and a new bus/rail reservation along Alford St and Broadway. Buses are not enough to serve this site alone. The Green Line system could...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

When I talk about self-created problems that don’t rise to the level of “god mode” transit pitch territory, I’m referring to things like having to abide by current timeslots for the current Maple Leaf. I’m unaware of a good reason why it’s considered unreasonable to pitch an additional...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

A Boston - Toronto Amtrak route on existing trackage shouldn’t be crazy, let alone “god mode.” The hurdles are all self-created political problems. The infrastructure is already there.

    Biking in Boston

Morton St should get this treatment (center-running bus lanes, protected bike lanes) next. Then there would be a start to the core of a bus and bike network in Mattapan and Dorchester.

    The Official MBTA System Map

It makes sense to save the name Egleston for the more robust light rail stop by the actual square itself once Washington St is turned into a primarily transit corridor. Just daydreaming.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Is there anywhere to see a list of the changes or do I need to open each line’s schedule and new schedule and do a manual side-by-side comparison?

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

No question that the result of the federal election is bad for the MBTA. The GOP control will result in less federal funding. With less federal funding, repairs and expansions may slow down or be skipped altogether, making service worse and decreasing ridership. Fewer riders could mean...

A new day and another day of data on the Orange Line! Some highlights from yesterday's (10/23/24) data: At 2:48, the Orange Line tied the day before for the lowest amount of slow zone time in 2024, still the lowest since February 20, 2023. Sullivan -> Back Bay averaged 12:29, which tied for...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

We really shouldn’t have so many headways under 3 minutes and over 10 minutes. I wonder if this will be resolved after the Broadway <-> North Quincy shutdown in two weeks.

A new day and another day of data on the Orange Line! Some highlights from yesterday's (10/22/24) data: At 2:48, the Orange Line set a new 2024 slow zone low, still the lowest since February 20, 2023. Forest Hills -> Wellington averaged 29:18, the fastest for that trip since November 24, 2022...
