Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

There is a lot of opportunity here for both Home Depot and additional development. Part of the parking lot along Revolution Drive, and the whole Circuit City property could easily be repurposed without impacting HD operations too badly. I'm still surprised the light industrial triangle just...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

"Office Space is dead" Deloitte, has signed a lease for 138,000 s/f of office space at Winthrop Center...the largest office lease signed in the city and the surrounding community this year. Deloitte is targeting to move into its new space at Winthrop Center in fall 2024. With 812,000 s/f of...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Such a weird collection of anecdotes in that article, and missing the point. Ebi Sushi just had 500 apartments open across the street BECAUSE THE T GOT BUILT, who will now be inviting friends to come visit on the T to their local sushi joint. Soundbites lost all of their car traffic during the...

    Tufts Development Projects

Thanks for sharing! That's an awesome article and project - lowered the basement 4 feet, underground expansion, totally separate entrance of bronze and glass, and geothermal HVAC - all without touching the character of the exterior or core structure. $$$$ Edit - found some more entrance...

Minority (?) opinion - gross. It's a glass box glued on to a classic structure. They couldn't even be bothered to intersperse some columns between the fishtank glass to match the rest of the design? Tried to mimic the roofline instead of a giant circle? Did the architect even look at the...

Suffolk Downs Redevelopment | East Boston/Revere

No retail announcements yet, but these guys typically bring in chains to be solid anchors to the neighborhood. https://bostonrealestatetimes.com/blackline-retail-group-named-exclusive-retail-leasing-agent-for-beachmont-square-at-suffolk-downs/ https://www.blacklinere.com/property/beachmont-square/

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Right - lots of people will be great for restaurants, sidewalk sales, pulling in retail to browse, etc. A pot shop will have fogged windows and no outdoor presence. It's a net loss, or at least and absence of activity, for a vibrant neighborhood. Basically what it looks like now - full...

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Booooooo. What a waste of an awesome public gathering/patio space. Happy they built a good looking building, but with pot shops on every corner with competing prices (13 storefronts in 4.2 square miles, vs "only" 10 Dunkin Donuts) economics says they're going to go the way of cheap liquor stores...

100 Chestnut Street | Inner Belt | Somerville

Good on them for staying local - but there's very few landlords willing to do short term industrial leases like this, and it can't be cost-effective. Battery research means chemical labs, which while aren't as strict as bio labs are still energy hogs. My bet is they must already have a large...

    Channelside (née P&G) | 244-248 A Street | Fort Point

Is it that hard to stick with the neighborhood industrial masonry? GE did it with a futuristic building, and still kept the minimalist tendencies. Really unimpressive effort that will get all sorts of praise... :(

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Off topic, but I thought Millennium Tower architects should be embarrassed when their Energy Star score in the BERDO was a 13/100. It's the equivalent of buying a Jaguar - you buy it for the looks not the quality.

    Biking in Boston

Eh - I've noticed the marked difference in city drivers learning and now looking to expect bikers around them in Boston/Camb/Sville, and some in outer metro bike network. You can even see drivers in Saugus starting to slow down near bike path crossings. My guess is tourists definitely don't...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

So that's where I get stuck. Heavy rail makes sense to have a suburban access terminus, so Rt 2 or 128 makes sense. But the density of Arlington really is only appropriate for light rail. So if we look at the potential extension questions: 1. Does GLXPorter make sense? Yes - for connectivity...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Keep your plan of Red from Davis up Mass Ave and skip Alewife. I despise Alewife - it's just a terrible clusterfuck, the building is falling down, and its primary purpose is to support further out suburbs and bus connections. You can't get rid of it without 2 features. 1 - adding a larger...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

They screwed this up in a number of locations - not sure why road crossing locations were so hard to figure out. The brand new generator next to the Somerville High School is probably the most egregious "why didn't you move it 20 feet over?"
