Why did we stop building through-streets?

Is it more attractive? I wouldn’t want to live on a dead end, but maybe that’s just me. I like having a little network of roads to walk around and multiple exits onto different bigger roads. And let’s step back from developers for a second and look at the towns. Even if dead-ends are...

Why did we stop building through-streets?

Not a huge history, infrastructure, or public policy buff so forgive me if any of this is wildly off base! But something that’s bothered me about conversations around housing, traffic, and infrastructure and how the three inter-relate is the forgone conclusion that any new development whether...

Multi-Family Zoning Requirements for MBTA Communities

Loved the wording shared by the earlier-posted article: “Now, the emergency regulations define subway stations as “any of the stops along the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Red Line, Green Line, Orange Line, or Blue Line, including but not limited to the Mattapan High Speed Line and...

Copper Mill Development | Elm Street and Grove Street | Davis Square

Ah, but see it’s primarily the ambiance that I’ll miss. The pizza is fine, but sitting out in that back parking lot on a warm summer night was really great. Looks like this building will fill that whole space.

Copper Mill Development | Elm Street and Grove Street | Davis Square

I like that they’re leaving room for multiple retail establishments. It’ll be sad losing the back of Dragon Pizza though. It’s been a nice place to sit outside and eat/drink/talk in the summer.

But it won’t get fixed if new stuff like this is following the old pattern.

I agree with the Tremont side, but the Melnea Cass side is decidedly cut off from the street. Kind of like West Village and Ruggles Street.

Was able to stop by here today with the beautiful weather. Thought the space was gorgeous. Very impressed!

    🔹 What's Happening With Project X?

Kind of a vaguer inquiry than most, but: what's going on with Malden? I feel like they put up a lot of great TOD downtown around Pleasant and Exchange and then just....stopped? There are still plenty of underutilized lots and such in and around downtown (like this corner of Charles and...

Multi-Family Zoning Requirements for MBTA Communities

The meeting was on a Monday. It doesn’t say what time, but already it’s going to be much harder for working people and parents to attend on a weekday versus retirees.

Idea for fixing the housing shortage

I think this is the big flaw in the argument: that if people/companies formerly tied to Boston were given the opportunity, they’d choose to reside instead in Brockton and Fall River. Wishful thinking to the extreme!

Everett Docklands Innovation District | 52 Beacham Street | Everett

Could be cool if there was some kind of “Everett museum of modern industry” where there could be a single oil tank and some kind of reduced or dumbed-down model of the plant for education/preservation purposes. Kind of like a more contemporary version of the Lowell mill museum. They could have...

I was more concerned about fuel usage. Surely a 70min flight burns more than a 70min drive or subway ride.

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

So long as they preserve frogface! Though I guess I’d be okay if they tore down the lindemann and kept that bit as a standalone sculpture.
