Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

From what I'm hearing the FRA requires a month of simulated non revenue service before signing off on the project. Look for much more traffic on the lines very soon. Right now Keolis is running one set in the daylight to qualify employees. It will be interesting to see what Mass Coastal does to...

I think we are going to see a debut of the new service in April.

As I recalll its a federal regulation about billboards near federal highways. The IBEW salvaged their investment by only posting public service messages.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

All the work that is left is punch-list stuff, and waiting for equipment such as switch heaters to arrive and be installed.

If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

I believe the mention of an East Providence bypass concerns the NE Corridor at East Junction in Hebronville MA. It is a sweeping curve that restricts the express trains to 110 MPH and is at the end of tangent track that begins in Mansfield MA.; About 11 miles. The spur track there is a straight...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

From my old timetable (2011), the 45MPH speed was over the movable span only. The speed through the rest of the interlocking was 60MPH

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Why not combine Readville and Cleary Square at a point between the two? There's plenty of room to build there and then place another stop at Clarendon Hill, which is where the pedestrian overpass exist at "Kelly's". I think it spaces out gives the railroad a little extra space at Cleary Square...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

If you want higher frequencies you need faster acceleration and higher top speed for commuter equipment. And greater capacity with more sidings. It's tough keeping a diesel train, making frequent stops, ahead of an electrified Amtrak train making limited stops, moving at much higher speeds.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

The rail work is mostly completed on the South Coast Rail project. Delta Corp is De- Stressing welded rail and removing joints. Most of the remaining work is related to signals, stations and punch lists such as drainage, interlocking work such as switch heaters etc. Also, Crossings are being...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

It would NOT skip Providence. I pointed out that Regional service would remain on the original route and Providence High speed rail service would still be part of the plan. With the prospects of electrification of commuter rail, the need to link Boston and Providence with Acela service would be...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

The existing platforms are at the same elevation as the old station layout. The tracks were lowered to accommodate high level boarding. There is very little room left below the station tracks.

BTW. This was when the Southwest Corridor was under construction and we ran on what we called the "Second District" The Midland Division main line.

Just noticed the mention of mileposts used on Amtrak's NE Corridor. An interesting fact about those mileposts is that it is measured from New York's Grand Central Station. The distance to Penn Station is about five miles longer than those mile monuments.

Great photos of rooftops that have, unless I'm missing them, very few solar panels. Interesting and kind of disappointing.
