General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

The orange line cars are a great example of this. At any point they could have done a long interview with any of our TV stations, inviting them in and giving a detailed explanation of what the 9+ months of delays have been - describing what needs to be fixed/tested. Instead we get a generic...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

CVB reports the trainset only did 3 round trips and was then pulled form service so the data can be analyzed. No word on when it will re-enter service.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

That sequence has them going the wrong way south down a one way street - almost as if heading to Cabot yards. A long way from Wellington.... Edit: Twitter does indeed have a photo of two OL cars in the RL Cabot storage yard...

MIT East Campus - Kendall Square Gateway | Cambridge

Unlikely, as being without an elevator is a no go - especially since Kendall elevator is currently acting as a replacement for the Central elevator, which is out of service.

Group question - are we also discussing the Coop building here? Can't see it on another thread. Was thinking about that as the plans for new Inbound red line headhouses was posted here, and was curious what they will do with the outbound head house when demolition starts...

Proto | 88 Ames St | Kendall Square | Cambridge

Well, this morning was interesting. The new configuration of Ames street, proto block, depends on the pavement markings being visible - which they are not due to snow. So this morning we had cars going form Main to Broadway, driving down the bike line (plus cars going down the regular travel...

    Longfellow Bridge update

OK, let's hop over to the other side of the bridge. Looks like they're putting some kind of lagoon in. The stairs off the bridge go on some elevated path across this body of water; and a retaining wall with notch looks like something that might be in your back yard hot tub. Anyone know...

Windows starting to go in at 145. Instead of the nice blue seen in the rendering (see first post) they look like the same drab windows in all the other Kendall buildings...

Crane is coming down this weekend. On Friday a self erecting crane had already begun disassembly.

Right around the corner they've set up a leasing office and 'demo' kitchen, in the lobby of 90 Broadway.

Also a bit of architectural license. This artist rendering has the Kendall station entrance way farther back form the street than it actually is, which is over-emphasizing that particular cantilever.

Re: Ames Street Residence | 88 Ames Str. - Kendall Sq. | Cambridge I stand somewhat. corrected - it was Boston Properties who agreed to help pay for Binney park back when they took part of the roof garden park. Article below says it was a $2M commitment at the time (Geez - was that 5 years...

Re: Ames Street Residence | 88 Ames Str. - Kendall Sq. | Cambridge Interesting - since Google already agreed to pay for said park in order to take part of the roof garden for offices....

Re: Ames Street Residence | 88 Ames Str. - Kendall Sq. | Cambridge Funny I spend so much time looking up at the building that I failed to look down. While walking past today I noticed the columns for the front of the building are actually IN Ames st. I didn't realize they were reducing the...

    SUPERCEDED MXD | Kendall Square

Thanks for the feedback all... Up/Down construction is a strong possibility. I didn't realize there was going to be that much parking underneath... Groundbreaking tomorrow might explain the gravel laid out today. Crane also being assembled, but it's not that tall. And has a strange pulley...

    SUPERCEDED MXD | Kendall Square

OK, who knows something about construction? They've been doing strange things. Last week they dug some holes, poured concrete inside them, then covered them back up (no forms/rebar/anything). This week they've been digging trenches, putting forms in. Then pouring concrete between the dirt...

Correct. What you are seeing are little frosted squares to cut down on the direct sunlight glare. Solar was investigated, but installation and maintenance of a clear system was prohibitively expensive.
