MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

If I’m understanding this correctly, this means double berthing trains?

If that 70% number is true, that is huge. If it isn’t costing much more than diesel, and is helping the environment, this is definitely something to invest in.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

I hate these NIMBY’s along SCR. You moved in when it was under construction? You had to have known there would be noise. You don’t see people in Haverhill, Worcester, or Franklin (just to name a few) complaining (most of the time), and they have had commuter rail service for decades. I hope...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

What’s the plan with OL 1400/1401? Are they going to fix them when the rest of the CRRC’s arrive (which will at best be 2027), or are they likely out for a while after that? I personally don’t see why the T can’t fix them (unless CRRC has to fix them), unless they are focusing on new deliverys...

Is this the same amount that’s in the graph above? Also, how are the going to cram 2+ platforms at Roslindale with an OLX? They proposed it in Focus40, so there is clearly some way, but I. just don’t see it. I also don’t see a way to fit 4 tracks through most of that section, unless they will...

That’s what I’d hope for too. If the Salem tunnel can’t fit wires (which I believe it can’t), would it just be easier to transfer to battery power at South Salem instead, so it doesn’t have to go to battery, then back to wires from Salem-Beverly?

Is the electrification just to Lynn? Still seems stupid to me to do that. Also, no BLX even in consideration?

Thought that property was all raised above like it is where it meets the street. Guess I was way off.

Is that even possible? Maybe a second track could be fit in, but not another platform.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Great takes. Sorry to anyone if my idea ended up being the same as yours, honestly just really liked that crossrail idea.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

This is more of a question than an actual “idea” I have to share (which is basically me slightly changing that Crossrail idea that was floated a little while back here). My “idea” is basically reusing the original Eastern R.R. ROW to reroute the entire Newburyport/Rockport Line. It would follow...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Calling it the “Donald Trump Environmental Protection Trestle” would be an ironic name.

I never knew they considered a Newport shuttle

This reminds me how interesting it is going to be to see how the T handles the World Cup. I know it’s not the entire cup but it’s still going to have a bunch of Europeans that would rather take the train than an Uber/bus.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Question because I think I’m misunderstanding this. I was looking through the MBTA’s coach option procurement slideshow from November, and they said that the additional 80 cars would allow for full replacement of the 260 car single level fleet. Assuming that they are including the 83 that have...

My personal thinking by 2035 (piggybacking on others dates): South Salem Infill + Yard West Station Red-Blue (at least construction) Upgraded Fairmount Service (battery most likely) Providence-Boston Electric Service BNRD Completion Blue Hill Avenue Bus Lanes SL3 to Sullivan West Lynn Station...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Is sorting by line and service date not the (right) passenger counts? Obviously you would have to average the numbers but they have estimated daily boardings.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Unrelated: at what point in time did quad track become very difficult in Quincy/Braintree? Was it when the southeast expressway was built, when the Quincy (and later Braintree) RL branch was built, or some other time? By what I can see, it was down to 2 tracks by 1955, but I don’t know at what...
