    General Portland Discussion

Cool, but the square is in dire need of a comprehensive makeover.

Infill and Small Developments | Portland

Wasn't there some discussion in the last year or two of a broader revitalization of Franklin Towers and the surrounding area? Future development on the adjacent surface parking, if I recall.

How many TV's does Buffalo Wild Wings need exactly? I count at least 9 in that mockup! Doesn't everyone just stare at their phone these days?

    465 Congress Street | Portland

It's gonna be great to see these two buildings come back to life! (465 & 477)

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

A few more details up on the portal for 221 Congress Street proposal. Mostly studio apartments of 269 sq. feet -- that's snug baby! I assume a "sustainable, car-free" lifestyle means they're forgoing parking...

    Historic Portland Discussion

Spring Street was still a narrow, cobblestone street at that point. High Street was two-way. I'm guessing a trolley was still using the tracks going down the middle of the street? Based on the cars this was probably the late 30's or early 40's?

    Historic Portland Discussion

That's what I thought it was, looking at it from the back of the McLellan House. It appears that the adjacent buildings have been torn down or substantially altered. And where's that cupola that's towering over the building on the right side of the image? Looks like it would be on Park Street...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Interesting. Seven stories and 87 units is substantially larger than what was proposed a few years ago. My recollection was that building was going to be called "Hayrunner" and have underground parking. Guess they couldn't market condos that would have views of both a Big Apple and a 7-11...

    Greater Portland Crane Watch

It's a great visual collection of current developments. The only surprise to me was seeing that the addition to the St. Lawrence Arts (now Hill Arts) center has actually begun?!? They've been talking about this project for 15 years or more, can't believe there is actually work underway. Will...

Wow. Has PWM ever had a direct flight to the west coast? Too bad it's so limited but exciting nonetheless.

Old Port Square (née Canal Plaza) | Portland

I agree, even after all these months the "top hat" adornment has not grown on me. I hope they will reconsider before construction plans are finalized.

Old Port Square (née Canal Plaza) | Portland

At 380 feet, the proposed tower on Union Street in Portland would be the tallest building in Maine. It is meant to resemble a lighthouse beacon. (Courtesy of Safdie Architects) A developer is laying the groundwork for what would be the tallest building in Maine history — a bold new addition to...

It feels like those barriers (and until recently, scaffolding) have been in place front of the Boyd Building for a decade now. It will be nice to see them go and things cleaned up...

Not to me, but even if it is... it's not small enough. :)

Time & Temp Building / Brown St. Parking Garage Redevelopment | Portland

My recollection from the last proposal (different developer) was that the city was very opposed to having any valet operations on Congress Street. The concern was that inevitably there will be congestion, double-parking, etc., and at such a narrow point on Congress you could have emergency...

What's the purpose of the floor-to-ceiling wood-paneled wall? Is it simply to screen the bathrooms? Is there a bench on there? It looks a touch odd to me.

We flew out to Ohio to visit my wife's family a few weeks ago on the new Breeze nonstop to Columbus. This was the first time we've been able to fly direct from Portland to Columbus. Typically we fly AA to Dayton, connecting either through PHI or DCA. It was nice to go nonstop and the A-220...
