Slow zones spreading to the harbor now too. Need some weekend closures for water work.

Can a town do that? It seems akin to a town closing a highway that runs through it.

The new excuse is that they need custom ties, estimated to be fixed “Spring 2023” https://mass.streetsblog.org/2023/01/18/temporary-green-line-slow-zone-approaches-1-year-anniversary/

Which leads me to the question: is that a limit imposed because of the track quality, vehicle design, signaling system, or something else? Probably a poor comparison but I never understood why high speed rail can go 160+ over a switch but the Green Line has to go so slow.

I feel like this 10mph limit over switches was already in place for the Green Line. At least on the GLX it has always slowed significantly over every switch regardless of if it is changing track.

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

You are failing to recognize that rail benefits the people who don’t use it. The mode shift of people in the catchment area of rail frees up space on the road for those who live further North. Adequate rail service negates the need for highway expansion. Highway expansion will inevitably induce...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

My unrealistic optimism tells me there’s a chance he’s leaving the MBTA to be Healey’s Transportation Secretary… but I know that’s not true. We really cannot afford to lose what little talent we have at the MBTA.

DCR Allston-Brighton Riverfront Parks and Parkways

Yes, which is why a road diet is planned here. Adding a median to the design is counterproductive when the goal is traffic calming.

DCR Allston-Brighton Riverfront Parks and Parkways

The point is that this should not be considered a major road, it’s a park. “medians… can increase traffic speeds by decreasing the perceived friction through separating traffic flow directions” - https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/saferjourney1/library/countermeasures/16.htm

Median separation will only serve to increase vehicle speeds and reduce functional green space.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Converting Sullivan Square underpass to BRT-ROW Something I have thought of, I’m not sure if it has already been discussed. I think this is borderline reasonable with the current SL extension and Sullivan Sq. Redesign plans. Why not use the Sullivan Square underpass as a BRT ROW? It could be...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

NTSB Report reveals Green Line TPS Project delayed from “late 2023” to June 2025. What happened to the tens of millions from the operating budget that were redirected to accelerate this project?

    MBTA Construction Projects

Wasn’t there a recently failed proposal from a private operator for passenger traffic on the P&W? Did they have a plan to deal with these issues or was it just ignored. I know the proposal was shady at best, but I can’t imagine any investor believing they could fund the installation of signals...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I’ve tried to ask this here and on twitter but have never really gotten an answer, is there a plan for eliminating stop signs on the Green Line? Will the new signal system implemented with Green Line Transformation remove them? I know some GLX stations have at-grade ped crossings, but there are...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Could the T have changed their mind about which line goes to Medford? Or does this just seem like a mistake?

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I wonder if it’s related to the dispatcher shortage. They may not want to use resources to dispatch test trains when they don‘t have enough for the active lines. Would be extremely disappointing if this is the case.
