Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

lol, anyone who understands anything about the current NEC knows these proposals are impossible under the current track config. Hourly intercity express + hourly intercity local + 2x bi-hourly branch service is like 4tph of Amtrak Acela + interlaced with local diesel CR trains on a system that...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

https://www.southcoasttoday.com/story/news/2025/09/29/cape-air-ma-new-bedford-airport-to-logan-boston-inaugural-flight-2025/86421694007/ this is a truly insane flight. Because we're incapable of building a reasonable electric regional rail network, we now need a flight that costs more, has...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I think the ATO and trip stop systems on red/orange/blue make it impossible for the operator to really exceed speed limits or run reds.

    Biking in Boston

I'm most appalled that these went back in the second the mayoral race was over. I hope we can just blame that on Kraft's agenda, and now that he's out of the way, Wu can push forward unopposed for infrastructure across the city. And for separators, I too don't love flexposts or zebra bumpers...

    Memorial Drive Greenway Phase III

Route 2 is crazy overbuilt inside 128, as an artifact of when the inner belt highway was proposed. It really should be reconfigured to never be wider than 2 lanes, which should help cut down on all the cars getting stuffed down fresh pond parkway (and onto memorial/storrow). Reduce capacity, and...

    Biking in Boston

Once cambridge has all of its CSO connected network complete, we need to encourage the city to remove (free) resident parking from one side of neighborhood streets (and just having it on one side instead of both). That space could be freed up for a contraflow bike lane, protected bike lane...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

For these trip examples here, I actually think adding entrances/exits to the pike would be adequate to remove bowker. Right now storrow is functioning as a mini-I90 for all trips going east from fenway and all cars arriving to fenway from the east. Getting those cars back onto the pike would...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

sure, some suburbanites who commute to Fenway-area for work 3 days a week may temporarily have a longer drive. But historical data shows traffic actually improving (or at least staying the same) when large-scale highway removals happen in the long run. But the much-improved parkland will drive...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

The more roads we build, the more people drive. The less roads we build, the less people drive (and people don't stop traveling alltogether, they just shift to a different mode). That's really all there is to it. If we built the inner belt right through cambridge, fenway, and forest hills, yes...

Riverwalk Bridge @ Science Park | Boston - Cambridge

We definitely badly need this riverwalk bridge, but it also seems to be tailored for tourists, runners, and recreational cyclists rather than actual people trying to get from home to work efficiently. Of course if Charles River Dam rd is a death trap (like it currently is) cyclists who are less...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

What's the deal with the Alewife crossovers? I've recently rode the red line from there several times, and when departing from the left-side track (where the train needs to use the crossover to get back onto the right side) there's clearly a ~800 foot 10mph limitation. Based on this complete...

Back Bay Station Concourse Renovation Project

For the love of all that is holy, can we get some high platforms for the Worcester tracks at Back Bay? It is straight up 3rd world infrastructure to still be using low-platforms for a station that gets so much ridership. If they can't coordinate to get new platforms in with this construction...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Anyone have any idea when the new Acela trainsets will be in revenue service? I've seen many dates thrown out there that have come and gone. Also disappointing that the timetable hasn't seen any adjustments yet (in padding reduction or higher top speed) to reflect the new trains. Unfortunately...

    Biking in Boston

https://mass.streetsblog.org/2025/06/05/eyes-on-the-street-a-little-better-on-the-b-u-bridge The recent reconstruction of the BU-bridge included a widening of the river path for a short section (though west of the bridge the path narrows to 4 feet again ). The southbound bike lane over the...

    Biking in Boston

This bikeway is decent and will provide a useful link once complete south of Comm Ave. However, I'm dumbfounded how they didnt make room for ANY bike infrastructure in the Copley Square park rebuild. You know if Cambridge built this they would've added side-walk level bike lanes on every side of...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

But to be fair, if we really are able to achieve 2 hours from NYC <> BOS and NYC <> DC (which is a BIG IF), there would be a ton of induced demand and modeshare shift. We'd expect tons of people to stop driving and the flight schedules can be pared down to be for connecting flights only. I think...

DCR Allston-Brighton Riverfront Parks and Parkways

the concept of a "shared-use path" is lazy, car-centric planning. As in, we're saving all the money and ROW space to build extra car lanes, so everybody else can just be lumped in together into a 10 foot path. It's like if I-90 was built with a single lane in either direction as a "shared-use...

DCR Allston-Brighton Riverfront Parks and Parkways

The memorial drive reconstruction (from Harvard JFK bridge to Eliot bridge) reduces car lanes to build a 10ft path + dirt walking path. At certain pinch points the two paths are adjacent, but at least we're moving in the right direction. This really needs to be the bare minimum.

DCR Allston-Brighton Riverfront Parks and Parkways

This is maybe a more minor point, but we need to advocate at these meetings to get away from the default "shared-use path" design for everything next to the river. Anyone who has been on the riverbank on a nice day knows that the 10-foot path creates constant conflict between faster bike...

    Biking in Boston

I don't disagree here. I mean that of the streets that are identified as missing links (and are critical holes in a otherwise connected complete network), the ones with the lowest bike modes are highest priority. Those are often the same roads that have the most hostile design.
