MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

It would work a little better if the track assignments were much more obviously visible (think, destination signage the same size as the large track numbers signs and visible without obstruction from the entire arched area), happened significantly earlier before scheduled departure or were...

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

Just got off an inbound rush-hour weekday train. Most fare gates were marked as active. A confused lady who didn’t speak English was in front of me trying to figure out how to exit, so I confidently, mTicket app already open, said "excuse me" and scanned the code. Unfortunately, this didn't work...

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

Came off an inbound CR this Sunday on the lower tracks (1-6) and it was a total mess. The cluster over by Track 1 (5 or so gates?) was offline and being actively worked on by one worker in a high-vis vest. The cluster closer to Track 4 had only 2 gates working (green check) with the rest broken...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Gotta hand it to you, it takes a dedicated hater to call the Public Garden "not that interesting." One of the most, if not the most, beautiful places in the city.

Honestly, it's fine. But full disclosure, I liked the render for the Four Seasons logo at One Dalton and begrudgingly think the relocated John Hancock sign looks neat.

Has anyone else spent extensive time walking back and forth outside the new section on Atlantic? It appears they've hired private security guards to stand (no chairs) in the entrances to the car ramps basically all day and night, presumably to prevent people who hang around the station full-time...

    Redesign Government Center

A bit less dead space than at present, though: I don't think this design is perfect, but 1) it does seem to better replicate the Piazza del Campo effect that is always claimed to be the inspiration for the current City Hall Plaza, and 2) the grand boulevard pointing straight at Faneuil Hall is...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

My understanding is (and I have experienced this myself), on peak use trains, they are so over-capacity and under-staffed that conductors don't have time to check all tickets between stops before they have to run to the doors, or there's so much crowding they can't even make it down the hallway...

    Providence RIPTA Services

A while back we had some discussion about the rail tunnel in this thread. It seems difficult to reuse for many reasons. Like I say in this thread, I think you could bore one station at Brown's Science Library about halfway through and call it a day for new-dig stations, but either end of the...

This technically exists for Boylston Station and Emerson's Little Building but it's been sealed off.

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

Presumably over its 188 years of use, the Public Garden has similar issues with heavy wear on soil compacting. I can't wait to see the precast concrete paneling and decking they'll use there to protect the willows and provide more hardscape for events setup so these useless parks finally get...

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

Seconded. I also comment frequently about how wonderful the growth on the Greenway has been during my time in the city (same for Spectacle Island) - but even on day 1, the Greenway was better than the elevated artery. This new 3/4 of Copley Plaza is worse than the previous park, IMO. Also - I...

Okay, well, if that was always the plan all along, no wonder people think it sucks. Do you think this render clearly represents the final state and distinguishes the types of green space? vs

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

I think the first glimpse is a huge red flag that the renders we've seen are a bit deceptive. We all think of Copley Square as mostly urban lawn for - as ill-advised as it might be - strolling and sitting on the grass. I think the impression was that this was going to be the bulk of the green...

WCVB5: Boston Mayor Michelle Wu responds to grievances over new Copley Square park layout I mean... this does look pretty bleak. I can find parking lots with more green space.

Do you if this is explicitly part of the design, or just a byproduct of being board-formed concrete? It does look tanner light a light wood than other, grayer board-form work I've seen.
