    Block G | 120 Seaport blvd | Seaport sq

Isn't this the same city where the intrinsic value of parkland for the public good has been so long-understood that it's legally codified that new developments in our densest downtown areas can't negatively impact even the light cast from the sun onto our central park? I personally think that...

    Block G | 120 Seaport blvd | Seaport sq

Well you have to remember, the Seaport is one of Boston's oldest neighborhoods that rose about organically over hundreds of years. It's not the kind of place where a master planner had blank slate to worth with, and could have designed the most optimal layout for civic uses and public transport...

    Block G | 120 Seaport blvd | Seaport sq

FWIW, Twitter user The Fort Pointer has been keeping track of various Seaport developments and debacles and got the developer to re-release this render with the massing of the approved building just to the East of Parcel G, for a more realistic portrayal of the future site.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

As people have posted in this thread, good art engages people and gets them talking. The fact that everyone on Reddit is split between whether it looks more like a penis or a turd means this sculpture is a resounding success.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

Hmm, Reddit has discovered that at certain angles it looks uncannily like hands holding aloft a large penis.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Here's a fantastic document from 2000 covering pretty much everything about the Pike parcels from the City of Boston perspective. On page 3, they identify that parcels 2 & 3 are located in Brookline and subject to their zoning. Also - the renders are beautiful. Can you imagine?

    Best and Worst Crowns?

A building's crown is often the most visible and distinctive element, and can make or break a building's design. For me, I tend to mostly notice them when they bother me, so I wanted to pose a question - what do you all think are Boston's best and worst crowns...

    Vent building 8

Thanks so much! I guess it's a kind of survivorship bias that I forgot about these extremely well-hidden/aligned ones, while even the smaller Dewey Square Tunnel vents stick out like sore thumbs.

    Vent building 8

While there's an active thread about vent building design, can I ask a related question that I assume has the mundane answer "it was moderately cheaper to do it this way": Why was virtually no effort made, with the exception of CAT Vent Tower 6, to integrate the design of these stacks into the...

Tai Tung Village Expansion | 288 Harrison Avenue | Chinatown

85 affordable units isn't nothing, especially if you're basically building them on an empty lot. But the potential at this site is what's killing me. The radian has 240 units (and 70 parking spaces), meaning you could plop one of those there and add an additional 155 units. Even if the...

Tai Tung Village Expansion | 288 Harrison Avenue | Chinatown

Ha, I think I edited my post to include a postscript about this while you were writing this reply. There is also the One Greenway garage that sits under the superbuilding consisting of 99 Kneeland (market rate rentals) and 66 Hudson (affordable rentals). As odurandina said above in 2019, the...

Tai Tung Village Expansion | 288 Harrison Avenue | Chinatown

The building permit has been granted for this as of 12/1/22. It looks like in the original documents and renders that this will be a standard 5-over-1 on a slab foundation with the 1st floor (facing Hudson Street) being parking, with the entrance at a comparable location to the existing lot...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

Forgive me if I'm missing it, but it looks like even with the much more preferential light conditions of the higher viaduct, as well as more pleasant adjacent conditions lacking major roads (like Charlesgate E/W, Comm Ave, Beacon, Storrow onramps), the entire area under the viaduct is dedicated...

    Parcel P-12 | 286-290 Tremont St | Chinatown

If anything, they're likely to expand it like in the last bid. Despite that garage and the one across the Pike at Herald St., Tufts feels under extreme parking pressure for staff and patients. For instance, they are the primary user of the current surface parking lot on nearby Parcel R-1...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

I thought the discussion happened in this thread but it was actually the WOOP/Kenmore thread - something like this has actually been studied officially and unofficially and I think could be very viable:

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

While these are all big improvements, I think this image with the "ghost Bowker" is somewhat misleading and implies a total removal of the viaduct between Newbury St. and Storrow - which, if you scroll up and back in this thread, is absolutely realistic by diverting to Charlesgate East and West...

Stadium & Riverwalk | Tidewater Landing | Pawtucket

I agree with everything Lrfox said, with the addition that distance from the Van Wickle gates means very little from a practical perspective. The stadium is less than 3000 feet from all the main athletic fields and is easily walkable for many students by being centrally located in the...
