Postmodernism deserves a little love too!

Disney really is one of the last great bastions of postmodernism. The Casting Center by Disney Springs (https://maps.app.goo.gl/JyiAGsnfvQErGGwo6) was one of my favorite buildings to see when we were down there a couple of years ago. Also, the incredible Deborah Sussman designed street signage...

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

I don't think adding exits to the Pike is going to change the fundamental reality of Route 9 as a secondary east-west artery. It would just add additional choke points to 90, which is going to drive more people to bail on it and take 9 instead. The focus should be on relieving some of the...

MGH Ragon Building | 55 Fruit Street | West End

I wish we could get more of a look into that mechanical penthouse. That one duct elbow is massive.

    General Boston Discussion

Just sucks for CT, who is going to lose their only top-level pro sports team, again. (Plays mournful version of Brass Bonanza)

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

I feel like some of the growth projections here are pretty optimistic, but regardless... I think the NWSL and the Legacy's owners are wise to not make the same mistake another sport made around 20 years ago. NASCAR demand was so high that track owners went on a building spree to the point that...

Report: Celtics to look into building new arena

The Bruins and Celtics have shared a venue full-time for 70 years now, part of the culture of Boston is going to Causeway to watch both. From that standpoint, it would be a tremendous shame for the Celtics to move out to their own place, and I think the Garden would be lesser for it (I wonder...

Postmodernism deserves a little love too!

It was always an event to go to CambridgeSide as a kid. It was usually the last stop after a trip to the Museum of Science so we could get something at the food court. Also multiple trips to the Sports Museum. I still love the view of the place from across Canal Park, the building looks like a...

Postmodernism deserves a little love too!

Looks like May 1988. Funny you should mention that about the Artery, my primary memory of the building is riding past in the back seat of my parent's car on the highway with the giant flag blowing in the arch. An elevated view that part of me is sad you can't get anymore, even if the city is...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XIX (2025)

I was driving myself nuts trying to figure out where this was, since it looked oddly familiar and had plausible locations in multiple spots in the metro area. Enough Google Map sleuthing led me to realize I had never actually been there - it's University Park Commons in Cambridge. I almost...

Postmodernism deserves a little love too!

I think this is the most concise summation of why I love it so much. It's one of those buildings that I can't imagine Boston without - which is crazy because it was actually built a couple of years after I was born. A great example of how Postmodernism can also be timeless.

Mt. Washington Resort - Bretton Woods

My wife's company threw a big party at the Mt. Washington Resort for all of their employees this weekend (and next, they had to split it into 2 groups). We got lucky and got to stay at the main resort, which was built in 1902. It's incredibly impressive and, as my wife said, it looks like the...

Postmodernism deserves a little love too!

Man, that Reston Town Center looks like such a great place to just exist in. It looks like 500 Boylston and Fanueil Hall Marketplace had a love child. I also appreciate the effort that was put in to make the cube farms at least somewhat dynamic - you don't get that anymore. I feel like a lot of...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XIX (2025)

If only you could have known then what that Star Market view would look like now. Amazing. I didn't realize the Big Dig fencing was up that late (2005) in front of the InterContinental. Seems kind of anachronistic in a sense.

Back Bay Station Concourse Renovation Project

When I have more time I'll have to dig into that! The early photos of the station (and Forest Hills and Ruggles) look so cool - makes me want to explore them and see what's in there.
