City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

I think our problem here is that we're communicating via the typewriter in Fringe, and you guys occupy the parallel universe to mine where City Hall Plaza is a beloved, welcoming, comfortable space for human beings. I live in the other one.

Scavenger hunt, next time you're there, swing by the Birth/Death/Marriage License area and try to find the part of the ceiling where the concrete has crumbled away to reveal rebar.

I mean, I'm always happy to do this dance. I live downtown, and was last at City Hall Plaza 4 days ago on Saturday as part of giving a little afternoon walking tour of the city to a visiting guest before an early dinner. There were fewer than 3 people in the plaza at the time (not counting us)...

Private parking lot next to (but unrelated to) the Narragansett beer corporate office building, I believe.

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

Since they first announced AFC 2.0 what seems like 25 years ago, a common sticker-shock retort was "at this point, couldn't they save money by just eliminating fares?" - if that math didn't check out then, it's on track to by the time this goes live.

Tai Tung Village Expansion | 288 Harrison Avenue | Chinatown

Chinatown does indeed have the worst air quality in the state and many things should be done urgently to address this, but I've got some bad news about many other places in the city: An exploratory analysis of sociodemographic characteristics with ultrafine particle concentrations in Boston, MA

Tai Tung Village Expansion | 288 Harrison Avenue | Chinatown

Well, if you did, you'd be in good company. Lots of young people looking for affordable housing close to downtown live in that area. If you wanted to socialize your pup within a 5 min walk of this site, off the top of my head I'd suggest the fenced dog parks north of Eliot Norton Park, south of...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Nobody is providing counterarguments because is unnecessary to respond to the pictures you've posted via argument - to everyone else in this thread, the photos self-evidently argue against your points. You have uploaded snapshots that we all recognize because we've all been there - to a...

    General Infrastructure

The only other information I can find is that the entire stretch from Columbus to Berkeley is Tax Parcel 0501004000 owned by the MBTA: I also had always assumed it was some kind of power substation for the T/Amtrak. Nice brickwork and wooden door, though.

    General Infrastructure

Here's a General Infrastructure comment and question... we have a number of bridges over the Pike which have somewhat extreme grades. While basically ignorable in a vehicle, they present challenges for pedestrians and cyclists (particularly with disabilities), cause cars and trucks to accelerate...

    General Infrastructure

This is the most obvious statement to literally any Bostonian, but this would be a big improvement. The (recently "restored") Fielder footbridge is a pathetic main gateway from the Public Garden to the Esplanade, especially when compared to more recent designs like the Appleton bridge at Charles...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Sadly Brutalism never did a fantastic job at that - I was inside City Hall yesterday, and noticed spots on the ceiling with crumbled concrete and exposed rebar, deeply inside the building (not at an obvious wear point like near windows). Most Brutalist buildings are infinitely more likely to...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

As a sweaty commuter, I agree with Suffolk 83's assessment. I know our situation is not as bad as I've witnessed firsthand in Seattle, but yes, it's bad, and South Station is a great example. There're semi-permanent encampments in and around the main station, stretching all the way down the...
