One end of the building is being held up with large girders. Every other year they add more girders. That end of the building cannot be used. Basically, the building is on the verge of collapsing. The cost or remediation would cost an estimated $100 million.

I read, and I cannot find that source now, that to rehab Matthews would cost at least $100 million and would require Matthews to be unavailable for at least a year. And building an underground parking garage on filled land, or on land straddling the original shoreline would be impossible.

Neither do the two Symphony Towers.

I saw a video on Vimeo from the Northeastern Advancement office. This will be the last season for Matthews Arena. They are planning to sell seats and other artifacts to alumni and others after a celebratory closing ceremony next spring.

This was previously the admissions reception center. Hopefully when Pardee vacates it BU will backfill it with other departments instead of converting it to student housing.
