Maybe Northeastern could tell Mayor Wu that if 840 Columbus is not approved they will seek to take over the other Sheraton Tower.

That tower is about 50 years old. The other tower, which will remain a hotel (for now at least,) is 60 years old. It is quite common for universities to acquire aging hotels as dorms. Myles Standis and Kilachand Halls at BU were once hotels. In Montreal, McGill has purchased three hotels...

It is not a zoning issue, the Church owns the land and it is leased to whomever built the buildings there.

The Church does not own the Pru land so they can do as they please. i believe that the Church will not allow any visible signs promoting a bar, and none on the ground floors.

If the residence is built by ACC it will pay taxes. A dorm would not preclude retail/restos on the ground floor.

I would not be surprised if a year or so from now there is news that Northeastern has bought the Midtown and are planning to build a new residence hall there. ;)

Northeastern has closed the White Hall dorm on campus due to structural problems that need to be repaired. Students scheduled to be housed there will be relocated to The Midtown Hotel for at least the Fall semester. So this project is nowhere near getting underway.

It could be worse, such as the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.

40 years is not that short a time period. And if you look at the condition of the city owned projects even 20 years after they were built, private ownership and maintenance is a good thing. Maintenance is an alien concept to the Boston Housing Authority.

The garage is more like 60 years old. Government Center started to take shape in the early 1960's.

I am not sure what is happening to that new Northeastern project. Now that the university has a long term lease on the entire tower 2 of the old Sheraton Boston (39 Dalton) they may be rethinking the whole project. Maybe more academic space, less housing?

Does Wentworth need more student housing? Two of their current residence halls have been partially leased to Northeastern in recent years: Edwards and Rogers Halls.

It also improves the view from Northeastern's International Village.

I think they intended that West Village G would at least partially hide Willis.
