If they could do a facadectomy it would eliminate the fire escapes, which I doubt were original to the building. I do not mean build a 12 story building around the facade but something respectful to what that stretch of BSR could have been.

Could you post a link to the video for those of us who hit the paywall?

Reminds me of demands a few years ago from students that the MBTA put the Green Line in a tunnel under Comm Ave. That would cost a billion dollars or so in order for students to be able to look at their phones while crossing the street.

The building is a cousin to the "lone tenement" on Lomasney Way in the West End. While a very interesting facade, it was intended to be in a row of similar buildings, not standing by its lonesome in the middle of a college campus. I don't know if there were other similar apartment buildings on...

They could always do a facadectomy and incorporate it into the Pardee building.

I had to laugh at 1:10 when the resident owner feared that her property value would decrease!

Reading that article Brown also talks about wanting to demolish the "lone brownstone" building that houses social work. That may get push back from preservationists. If a new Pardee building is built on the adjacent parking lot, demolishing the social work building would greatly expand the BU...

Nice touch but I hope they wash it off afterwards.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

In the 1950's Victorian buildings were seen as ugly and in need of demolition or at least having those ugly architectural details covered up. Tastes have changed and in some cases they are undoing the damage such as this:

Looks on schedule for an August occupancy and fully functional for the start of the Fall semester in September.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

As Northeastern has grown and built many architecturally attractive buildings, I have come to realize that Krentzman Quadrangle has become an iconic site on the campus. What was once seen as drab, gray, industrial architecture has aged into a unique cohesive whole. Dodge, Ell and Richards on...

I never thought that I would hear the word "boutique" to describe housing in East Boston.

Student feedback about 39 Dalton has been very favorable, despite the walk to campus. Maybe this is why the 840 Columbus project has not been moving forward. Likely is a lot cheaper than the cost of building that new dorm. Northeastern can now use the space for an academic building.

That is part of their PILOT program. Northeastern does the same for BPS graduates.

You cannot look at the sticker price. Most students at WIT, Northeastern and BU receive grants and/or scholarships to reduce the cost.

For Boston public schools standards, a 40-year-old building is practically brand new.

Can't tell how this interfaces with Northeastern's portion of the block. There would have to be a blank wall facing NU if they are building right up to the property line.

Northeastern is doing a floor-by-floor renovation of Snell. I have not seen the details. Like many academic libraries nowadays, there will be very few physical books remaining in the building when finished. In Boston University's latest IMP, they are planning a complete renovation of Mugar...

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

UGH! I was hoping that they would build out the first and second floors. That entryway has always been a dingy space. Much of the pre-1995 campus is gray. Northeastern has been trying to brighten it up with the various artwork murals. But this? No.
