    General Portland Discussion

If I remember correctly, they didn't have anywhere close to the budget needed to execute that plan in the top image, so the parks department ended up scrounging up some old granite curb pieces and stuff they had lying around so they could at least do something. As far as I know, the current...

    General Portland Discussion

Wow. Around 2006-2007 I was living in the North End, and would often walk that path along the water to visit the ICA. Aside from the museum itself, almost none of the other buildings in that photo were there at the time... Crazy how much that area has changed.

196 Lancaster Street Master Plan Bayside

They forgot to add the utility poles to the rendering... This looks great though, what a much needed change to that part of town.

    Thompson's Point, Portland

They're saying "construction is scheduled to start this year" on the hotel. Seems like one of those projects that is permanently coming soon. https://www.pressherald.com/2023/04/17/hotel-concession-building-coming-to-thompsons-point/

A taco place called Taco A Go Go is going into the Copper Branch spot. Sounds like some other work / improvements will be going on in this area? https://www.pressherald.com/2023/04/04/premier-retail-space-at-center-of-downtown-plaza-redesign/

Thanks, Portlander! Searching that turned up some good stuff. Here's one of City Hall during construction around 1911. It's interesting that the spire/weathervane used to be much taller:

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

Against my better judgement, I just went and had a look... Almost all of the comments are in support of taller buildings. Even some of the usual suspects, that typically complain about everything, are saying that we need to build up... I'm surprised.

Haha yeah... especially in Portland, apparently. People will look at that rendering and freak out about how it's too crazy, doesn't fit, why can't it just be a "normal" short, square brick building, etc...
