I don't mind the plastic seats on the new Orange and Red cars, but I find the seats on the Blue Line to be far too slippery. If I don't sit against a pole or other edge feature to the directional back end of the car, I find myself sliding around.
That would likely be the best option, given the faux historic preservation concerns. I'd still like to see these building lifted up by a thousand helicopters and moved to some location out beyond 128. I think they are great buildings, just terrible urbanism.
Good news to see the next phase progressing, but I think phase 3 is the only true transformational element of this project. Hopefully that actually happens.
It's not even a "but the US is different!" type scenario, since there are many agencies right in this country that know how to implement POF systems. It is only the T that is "special" in this regard.
City Hall Plaza actually does have a beer garden, but it's kind of tucked away, and certainly not the sort of wide ranging and open seating you'll find in European plazas. It shouldn't be hard for somebody with a push cart and some folding chairs to just roll in and set something up each morning.
Yeah, I don't much care for it from that angle, but I think it actually looks pretty good when approaching on Belgrade Ave from the Roslindale side of the Parkway.
Sorry, I didn't mean that you or whoever took the picture cropped it, just that the framing is an incomplete image if we are trying to evaluate what is in the plaza.
This is probably the train we will see here, plus MBTA specific modifications.

A lot of the trees are the ones that were already there, and the raised decks around the tree heavy sections are part of a strategy to improve longevity. I am optimistic that it will look quite lush over time.
The image above your comment is cropped in such a way to significantly diminish the amount of actual lawn. What appears to be two small triangles to the left and right of the desire path are actually the larger lawn in front of the church, and the lawn surrounding the fountain. As for the path...
And the service is going to be complete shit for anybody not going to Foxboro. The new schedules are out, and they aren't good. Just looking at my local train, Needham drops from 17 to 14 daily round trip trains for the duration of the event, and down to six daily round trips on game days. That...
It would be kind of nice if the Globe could get some writers who actually know Boston and its history. The quote I copied above is completely wrong about the plaza. "Generations" ago, it wasn't a lawn at all, but the continuation of Huntington Ave. and a parking lot. People are free to say that...
True, but there is nevertheless quite a lot of seating in the food hall and the ticketed passenger lounge. To be honest, I think benches in the atrium area would disrupt both flow and queuing. Ultimately, as somebody who passes through there a few times each year, I've never found benches to be...
Based on the city's project page, it seems this is still under the design phase. Wu has garnered enough bad will that we are correct to be suspicious, but I suspect in this case, they just aren't ready to implement the final design.
I guess it's a question of public transit's mission, but to me, it's very justified if there are low income workers commuting at 2AM, for us to give them a non-car ownership or non-expensive car share option.
