New-build classical architecture (evoking old styles)

How would you even go about styling an NFL stadium so that it doesn't seem out of scale in this location? They can't exactly make it smaller.

New-build classical architecture (evoking old styles)

I disagree, I think its grandeur is quite fitting for the location. I would expect nothing less from a stadium situated at the end of East Capitol St with a direct line of sight to the Capitol. This is DC, after all.

Housing (Supply Crisis & Public Policy)

Hmm ok so I have a hypothesis about the townhouses. From some admittedly very surface-level research, it appears that in MA we generally classify townhouses as "multi-family", while in VA it is considered "single-family attached". This distinction may have significance in terms of inclusionary...

Housing (Supply Crisis & Public Policy)

Thanks for linking that planning doc, pretty interesting read. Cheverly station is just about as bad as it gets, though. 2nd lowest ridership station in the whole WMATA system, and it's basically just a convenient station location on the way to a more important terminus at New Carrollton. Not...

    Whats left to build on?

With the state taking inventory of underutilized state-owned land that could be used for housing, does anyone know if there are proposals for these massive parcels around the Old Colony Corrections Center? Seems like the perfect place for a dense master-planned community + infill commuter rail...

Housing (Supply Crisis & Public Policy)

Braintree, MA - 11 mi from downtown Boston - Station opened 1980 Vs. Wheaton-Glenmont, MD - 11 mi from downtown DC - Station opened 1990 (it's underneath the intersection) This is one example of two particularly analogous situations, but almost everywhere you look DC completely gaps Boston in...

    Newton Infill and Small Developments

Based on the pictures it appears that step-backs break up the street-facing facade into 5 separate parts, so its not like it is one massive 200ft long wall. More creative facade materials could probably help. I don't entirely disagree with the sentiment but from a practical perspective it...

    New England Electrical Grid

I'm not exactly an expert on this stuff, but I was under the impression commoditized solar + battery storage already exists at a per MWh cost lower than what any new nuclear can provide, while SMRs are theoretical and far from being proven to be more cost-effective than solar paired with battery...

Idea for fixing the housing shortage

Actually, your prediction was already correct. As of December, a revised version of the bill that has gone to the Senate Ways and Means committee for review has changed the parking minimum requirements from 0 per unit everywhere to 0 per unit just for 1) units within 0.5 miles of a transit...

Are there plans for that massive substation right by the new stadium to be covered/buried/relocated/removed?

Housing (Supply Crisis & Public Policy)

It's not as black and white as "fix" or "not fix". There are absolutely policies that would make the crisis less severe, even if it doesn't mean housing prices get cut in half or something. Incremental improvements still move the needle, and politicians should be pursuing them.

Commonwealth Pier Revitalization (née Seaport WTC)| 200 Seaport Boulevard | Seaport

I think it's kind of cool. The dark color w/ the variety of setbacks, heights, and angles make it almost look like the waves of the harbor. Something lighter would just blend in with the rest of the seaport high-rises.

Housing (Supply Crisis & Public Policy)

Agreed. Outside of an exhaustive, state-wide zoning/development plan (which, while politically untenable, seems like the most comprehensive way to solve this), what policies do you think could combat this trend? Only ones I can think of off the top of my head are: - Eliminate parking minimums...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

How does this function as an alternative to OC double track? You're not eliminating any of the CR lines since you're not extending all the way down to Middleborough. And you can't even decrease the CR frequency on the Middleborough line that much. The capacity constraint on the single track...
