    Logan Airport Capital Projects

I had a 30+ minute wait in E in the last week of August, but that is definitely an exception and not the norm.

This is what happens when operators operate like humans, doing stupid human things, without a mechanical failsafe. Humans are terrible at judging risks. What's a few MPH there, a close follow here, etc?

This wouldn't be totally unprecedented, Rotterdam has these signals at crossings: There are no gates but the lights flash and make the dings any other RR crossing would. The main concern there would be noise pollution.

Report: Celtics to look into building new arena

There could be money to be made between stadium naming rights and events. But it seems like a longshot unless they bribe lobby Josh Kraft enough to run for governor with the promise of state funding or tax breaks on their behalf, I hear he likes stadiums outside of Roxbury.

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Looks very nice! With the Bridle Path rebuilt that will really make Beacon St into an amazing corridor.

If people pass the buses while they're pulled over to stop, which I can't speak to personally but knowing MA drivers seems pretty likely, then the number of stops is irrelevant, the total time spent waiting in traffic is the same as anyone else driving that stretch.

Goals not listed in any particular order. Safety was talked about more. I would not call 5-8 minutes of time savings during peak hours negligible.

My notes from the Lynnway meeting tonight: Stated goals: (In no particular order) Faster travel times on public transport between Lynn and Wonderland Make the Lynnway less dangerous Build out transit for ongoing and future redevelopment of the commercial areas Preserve a major private vehicle...

    Tobin Bridge Relocation/Replacement

This is what I've been stuck on. IMO the clear continuation is Red-X via Cabot Yard. But that would obviously entail modifications to all the stations on whichever RL branch you choose, plus it makes Old-Colony double-tracking harder since you now need to maintain four tracks. through JFK and...

    Redesign Government Center

I think the biggest difference maker would be a new fountain. I don't think there's any better way to liven up a space.

    Redesign Government Center

On the one hand, great building. On the other hand, that's a lot of dead space. Pretty dead space sure, but dead space nonetheless.

    The Official MBTA System Map

I've been wanting to do a version that aligns Copley and Back Bay for that nice clean 39 line for a while, but I finally made it work. The main drawback is that it nearly doubles the spacing between Mass. Ave and Back Bay which looks a bit awkward. Is it worth it? I'm still not sure.

    Tobin Bridge Relocation/Replacement

Re: Gradients and inclines limiting station sites: There's no rule that says a station has to be at ground level. It can in fact be suspended under a bridge. Obviously in that case the 1% maximum platform gradient rule applies, so you'd want to start the incline for the rail portion of the...

    Tobin Bridge Relocation/Replacement

Again, you do not need any of this for 6%. If we were talking about 10% that would be a different discussion, but we're not. If high-floor "Light rail" vehicles can do it, then you can have subway trains that do it. Or just build a high-floor "light rail" line/medium capacity metro.

    Tobin Bridge Relocation/Replacement

Not from 4%. 6% is roughly the next step up, and is absolutely doable with (beefy) subway trains.

    Tobin Bridge Relocation/Replacement

That's a pretty conservative estimate. If we're assuming that any line over a new bridge is a standalone line, it will need new rolling stock which can be designed beefy enough to take steeper grades. Yes it is more expensive on the rolling stock procurement side, but likely far cheaper on the...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

...during rush hour? Somehow I'm doubtful that applies to anyone besides workers. (And as discussed previously, some kind of access to Longwood would need to be maintained.) Also, again apart from workers those are big inelastic sorts of demand. Sporting events and shows will draw people in...
