City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

I can see both sides of the argument. Another relevant quote: “It occurs to me that our survival may depend upon our talking to one another.” ― Dan Simmons, Hyperion

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

I thought the following quote applies well to this discussion: “In the beginning was the Word. Then came the f___ing word processor. Then came the thought processor. Then came the death of literature. And so it goes.” ― Dan Simmons, Hyperion

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

It's a sin they didn't keep the original facade. Its floor heights were identical to the new building so it would have fit in nicely, plus look a 1,000 times better.

    Everett Infill and Small Developments

Nice looking building. I wish there were not an absence of retail activity on the ground floor. Someone mentioned upthread that this lack may be due to potential flooding, for all the new developments in Everett in general?

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

Forgot to mention, our younger son Mark took that photo last week when he was in town.

    Happy 20 year anniversary

Not as old as I am probably. But I just drove 7,000 miles these last 3-1/2 weeks with my wife clear across the US and back. My favorite city was Fargo ND. That sounds like a joke, but seriously it is a beautiful town; well laid out, and nice people. Sorry, but not many good photos of the trip.

I will have been on this site for 20 years, as of this July 15th. It's as great as ever!

Kendall Common ( née Volpe Redevelopment) | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

Looks like a combination of a Frank Gehry building and an art deco pointed tower.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

The only loophole I could find is a pilot program. Congress has authorized the Value Pricing Pilot Program (VPPP) which allows specific states to implement congestion pricing or toll existing, free lanes. This program, established in 1991, allows up to 15 state or local governments to toll...

Toll I-93 from Woburn to Braintree, and dedicate the funding to the T. Seems like no-brainer to me.

Porter Square Infill and Small Developments

It doesn't need to be rebranded. The stores and parking lot need to be totally raised and replaced with a whole new dense development of retail and mid-rise residential. No more half measures.

Not sure about the balconies, but the overall look is fantastic.

Lyra (née The Huntington) | 252/258/264 Huntington Avenue | Fenway

Looks like a camper trailer layout. But where are the popouts?

AstraZeneca/Alexion MXD Tower | 290 Binney Street | Kendall Square

What is it about Kendall Square that keeps producing these fantastic structures? Is it the legacy of old industrial era factories in the neighborhood providing the "good bones" for this kind of classic sci-fi look? Is it the influence of MIT nerdiness that produces these perfectly understated...

Postmodernism deserves a little love too!

That's pretty cool. It's like PoMo meets the old wild west.

    General Boston Discussion

I remember when that sign was Cities Service instead of Citgo. I liked the Cities Service sign better, as it had a mid-century retro look.

North End Piazza on The Greenway | 198 Hanover Street | North End

It's looking less like one every week, or maybe just a more finely sculpted butter carving.

    AI Redraws Boston

I typed in "Cambridge Massachusetts 1650" into Chatgpt, and the image below is what it produced. I did it because my ancestor (on my dad's side of the family) immigrated to Cambridge from England in 1640, and I was curious what the town may have looked like back then. The image looks plausible...
