Everett Transportation (SL3 extension, potential OLX/GLX, Sweetser Circle infill station)

I'll be slightly cynical about this. The "subject to approvals by the MBTA" bit might be doing a lot of work there. It looks dodgy when something like this is contingent on a third-party that could have been involved in these discussions in the first place. That makes it seem like this could be...

    Fantasy T maps

One thing that stands out in that map is how hard it is to get good travel between Cambridge and Somerville, in a lot of cases. In your map, Assembly is one of the biggest destinations, but there are no direct lines from Cambridge. Union Square is becoming a big destination, but again, it's...

Housing (Supply Crisis & Public Policy)

Does anyone have a sense of how likely it is this case will succeed?

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

That's an interesting take. It does seem like cutting the bridge in half does maybe too much damage to the bridge you're trying to save. The brick pillars and facade on the north side would be lost? or saved at great expense? I really don't know how to fix that intersection, but there are a...

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

I don't think you answered my question. Do you think Mayor Wu is trying to kill this project? That would be a big deal, if true. That seemed to be what you were suggesting, but I might be misreading your reply.

Are you suggesting Wu is still trying to kill this project?

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

If I've got this right, the original "agreement" (done secretly, without Boston involved) would have given Boston $750k to fix some athletic fields in Charlestown. After Boston got involved in the process, they negotiated that up to ~$48M for all kinds of infrastructure improvements. I was told...

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

How are the new gates supposed to work with Charlie Cards for the Fairmount Line? Like, how is it supposed to work? But also, how will it actually work? I don't ride Fairmount much but I have never, not once, ever seen one of the Charlie Card validation machines actually work. Are people on the...

Wentworth Mixed-Use Life Sciences Complex | 500 Huntington Ave | Fenway

Honestly, yeah, that would blend right in. From that point you've got the picture from, what you see is a bunch of tall Northeastern buildings. I assume something similar will end up where Punter's Pub used to be. Peeking to the right is the tall, modern Mass. College of Art and Design. Those...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XIX (2025)

This will probably be me last contribution before I go mostly offline for a little while. This snow isn't the most recent. It's from January, I think. Happy Holidays everyone!

Very different from yesterday's picture, this is also Boston

Oh no, 2025 is running out! I'm going to try post some pictures I've taken this year. Here's one from a few months ago now:

    MassDOT News Updates

Again, this seems bad. These are two different, 24/7 jobs. On some short basis this might have been reasonable, but there's a reason these are two jobs. I don't want the head of the MBTA having to make decisions possibly tempered by the fact that he is also the head of roads and highways. That...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Any that still mark the Green Line to Arborway as "Temporarily Closed." I feel like I've seen one of those at Forest Hills in the fairly recent past.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Ok, I submitted the feedback. And I also submitted the feedback that the feedback submission is broken. I might even submit one more bit of feedback, if I dare. On the topic of updating system maps, the big exception is the Commuter Rail maps. The ones posted in stations are almost exclusively...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

It took a long time after GLX for the T to update maps around the system. I don't see a lot of outdated maps anymore, so it was interesting to see this one. I would have thought part of the benefit of using a digital display is that it's easy to update, but I guess not.

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

I agree with you in part. CX is partially isolated from the rest of the neighborhood, for sure. But CX does have one big, automatic foot traffic generator: Lechmere station. People from East Cambridge will cross the car sewer to get there. People come through by bus or train. That should be...

    Biking in Boston

I'm not sure how you're coming to that conclusion. Here's the report for anyone who want to look at it: https://www.boston.gov/sites/default/files/file/2025/11/Better%20Bike%20Lanes%20Fall%202025%20Eval%20Web%20Version.pdf Bike volumes went up on all the new bike lane streets they measured, and...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

From other people's responses, I can see why that would be hard. Not impossible, but hard. But jeez, I agree with you that that is crap service and we shouldn't have to tolerate it. I don't know that other transit agencies work that way around the world. There are so many possible fixes and we...
