Millennium Tower (Filene's) -Discussion and Photo Thread

Other than neglecting to provide the promised cap to the roof, making this thing look ridiculous when viewing from the south, MT remains a bigtime victory in every way.

Report: Celtics to look into building new arena

Or get the Jacobs family to partner w/ Celtics ownership somehow. It's always been incongruous that the far (far!) more successful (in every metric) team has to take second billing in terms of scheduling and acommodation to the lesser. And don't get me wrong - I love the Bruins! And I get how...

    General Boston Discussion

The extremely hacky, cheap "rennovation" of the Bromo-Seltzer Tower in Baltimore -- which was, and could be, really cool -- makes me very grateful that Boston usually (not always...) has reverence for its historical landmarks.

    General Boston Discussion

Having visited Baltimore last winter for a convention, I can vouch that much/most of the city is varying degrees of dangerous -- WAY moreso than Boston.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

The shots don't convey it very effectively, but nearly all of the windows are in now -- noticeably more than a week ago.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

All fair points. I wonder if I had seen the Analex building when it was in better condition if I'd share your fondness. By the time I was going to Celtics games as a little kid in the mid-'80s that building really stuck out to me as just being remarkably ugly and dirty/falling apart.

    EB80 | 80 East Berkeley | South End

Sure, so long as it doesn't sit there as a vacant lot for long.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

eh... the Sears building (just like the other/another Sears building in Porter) is pretty squarely Art Deco, and I don't think that holds true for Analex, which -- as you say -- is (was) solid and dependable, aesthetically, but had no trappings of AD or really any movement or style to it.

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XIX (2025)

I should have written "block," rather than "building." I was the further end of that block, near Hemenway Street: 1126 Boylston St. I did hang out at 1088 a lot, though (though they were more often at our spot b/c we had roof access and we'd all hang out on the roof (wish I had taken ANY...

Cool. I lived in that same building when I was at Berklee six years before you.

Back Bay Station Concourse Renovation Project

I still like both stations, in particular Back Bay. Lack of maintenance and decent treatment doesn't mean they're fundamentally "bad."

Actually, that'd be 2011. Maria's Italian Cold Cuts next door was at least as big of a loss.

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

Fair points and I'd like to see that second residential happen ASAP, but *NO* to the ugly labspace block that, aside from being gross on its own merits, totally ruins the best view of One Congress.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Totally get where you're coming from. My guess(es) are thus: as regular riders become more familiar with it, they'll know to (for example) open their umbrella earlier (or leave it open longer) or truly torrential days; I expect there will ultimately be some type of "join" between the headhouse...
