South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

That's the scoop, yeah. That said, having never been there before, I just asked if I could check out the lounge -- I wasn't traveling at all that day -- and the person minding the entry was cool about it. Never hurts to ask. I've since been "legitimately" a few times when traveling Acela first...

to your sharp left as you face the tracks from the headhouse, between the ticket office and information booth. "amtrak metropolitan lounge."

I think the larger point is that the platform is one thing and the station/headhouse is another. There have been innumerable posts here with unanimous consensus that, at the very least, the station should be cleaned (the ceiling... woof). It's a beautiful building and hasn't been well-maintained...

Except Coca-Cola is an American icon in America's biggest city. CITGO is largely unknown to most Americans (other than those who associate it with the Sox) and it's not an American company. I hear (read) what you're saying, though.

    General Boston Discussion

I work just down the street from the Cathedral and on a daily basis the "unfinished" nature of the structure bugs me. Surprising that, during the many decades during which the Catholic church's coffers were bursting -- particularly in Boston -- and the financing would've been there, it never...

Thank you ^^^. I agree that Moynihan is very impressive, but to compare that hall with SS's platform is... questionable.

Sure. Then the Empire State is 1,250 feet and not 1,454 and the Burj Khalifa is 1,919 feet and not 2,717.

Fenway Corners (Red Sox) | 1 Jersey Street | Fenway

Count me among those who think it's kind of embarrassing that one of Boston's most iconic visual cues is a sign for a Venezuelan oil company. "Icons of American Cities: The Statue of Liberty, Golden Gate Bridge, The Space Needle, Gateway Arch, Sears Tower, and... an ad for a foreign gas station."

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

The Pru is 920' to the tip of the antenna. I think it's idiotic that purely decorative spires are included when calculating a tower's height, but actual functional spires aren't. If anything, I think the fact that the Pru's "spire" actually does serve a purpose makes it *more* legitimate for...

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

I agree it's pretty great -- and in the warmer months it really shines. It's a playground for/home to the very well-to-do (a frequent "criticism"), but so are Back Bay and Beacon Hill and nobody gets particularly upset about either of those neighborhoods.

Midtown Hotel Redevelopment | 220 Huntington Avenue | Back Bay

I like having a legitimately affordable hotel in the very middle of the city. also, for fans of "dirty old boston," this is certainly of that era, so enjoy it while you can.
