    "Dirty Old Boston"

you could be right and/or the meaning may have evolved. i always understood "PoMo" to be a deliberate reaction against modernist architcture -- self-consciously playful, eclectic, elaborate, even gaudy, often incorporating historical elements, bold colors, and decorative features. the opposite...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

Do those (these) really qualify as PoMo, though?

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

The idea of a facedectomy came up many times before they knocked the old SC&L down. Allegedly it wasn't structurally sound enough to be a candidate for that kind of thing (I don't buy that, but whatever).

Other than the first night when it was lit red and bright I 100% agree with you!

    Walking in Boston

On new -- or recently re-done -- stretches of sidewalk in Boston (and Somerville. Not sure about elsewhere) the areas around the base of planted (newly or preserved) trees *are* rubber.

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

i guess i like "tacky facade(s)" -- miss what was there. not b/c it had been there for a while, but b/c it was distinctive and detailed and made an effort. the original iteration of hotel commonwealth was tacky -- looked like something out of disney california adventure or the cheesecake...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Or go the other direction (west) and hit up Padanaram, Round Hill Beach, and Demarest Lloyd (all Dartmouth)!!!

432 Park is a good sight less "bleh" than this lump.

The Sudbury (Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower) | 50 Sudbury St | GCG Phase I | Gov't Center

It's an excellent tower (high-rise, whatever) with really high quality-looking cladding, classy arrangement, and I love how it plays nicely with/mirrors the JFK. As for One Congress, so long as nobody/nothing blocks the head-on and 3/4 views -- no harm, no foul.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Sounds excellent! I'm a big fan of New Bedford (and Dartmouth). The whole South Coast area is a hidden gem, relatively speaking.

General Services Administration Sale of Federal Buildings in Boston

More on this topic if you have a Globe subscription. The McCormack as residential seems promising. The O'Neil should be flattened and that land repurposed.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

I get that some folks have concerns about "light pollution" and its impact on... birds, I think? I care deeply about the environment, but lit-up buildings seem, to me, to be fairly far down the line in terms of topics to be passionately concerned about. As for nightlife, I appreciate that you...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Boston's skyline is finally getting a little brighter and more colorful. This is a great addition, One Congress' front horizontal-stripe thing is excellent, Hub on Causeway's moving lightshow thing is cool (when it's working...). Winthrop Center is underwhelming, but better than nothing. MT...
