Everett Transportation (SL3 extension, potential OLX/GLX, Sweetser Circle infill station)

Maybe this will help get the MBTA moving on the final design for the rest of the SL3 extension from Chelsea to Sullivan Sq.

Definitely AI. In fact the entire hotel, including it's "unique" architecture, looks like an AI product.

Transit Planning $h!tposting (Ideas so bad, they're good)

One big drawback is that it would not provide direct BL access from Lynn to Logan Airport, unlike the current proposals for BLX to Lynn which would.

    Hull infill and small developments

I miss the old Paragon Park amusement rides. We used to take the ferry from Rowes Wharf to Nantasket Beach, and spend the day at Paragon Park. Didn't need a car at all for the trip.

    Crazy Highway Pitches

I was thinking something more robust, like ramp metering on steroids. Ramp metering, as it currently exists, helps a bit to even out the traffic flow entering an expressway, but usually fails to untangle the gridlock on the expressway itself. If there were (someday) self-driving cars and...

    Crazy Highway Pitches

Thank you for the insightful reply. The technology just isn't there yet for roadway management at this level. Maybe with self driving cars it could work.

    Crazy Highway Pitches

Here's an idea I've been thinking about for a few years. Bar all additional traffic from expressways inside route 128/I 95 whenever they meet their capacity. Once an expressway gets below, say 35 mph, don't allow any more vehicles on it (except emergency and police vehicles) until the...

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

When I was in my 20s I used to bike it all the time, all the way from Alewife up to 128. I'm 76 now and could probably still do it if I tried.

Yes, it would seriously squeeze the traffic capacity on Rte 2, but that would lessen, maybe even eliminate, the bottleneck where it hits Alewife. Plus, a great link in the metropolitan bike/ped trail system would be added, from the Minuteman Trail at Alewife all the way out to Lincoln.

The solution is to narrow Route 2 from Alewife all the way out to Rte 128/I-95. Narrow Route 2 from 4 lanes to 2 lanes in each direction, and convert the vacated lanes on both sides of the highway into park land with muti-use trails. Another option would be two general traffic lanes in each...

Greenway Residential Building | 55 India Street | Downtown

It matches the heights of the adjacent buildings really well. At least its not a squat two-story hovel like the North End Piazza.

Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

The trouble with making it into anything that even remotely resembles a park is that when the time comes to convert it back to a building site, then the NIMBYs raise hell about losing a park, and also 4F regulations may even kick in.

A "complete streets" emphasis needs to be adopted by DCR and MassDOT for these parkway roads. I don't care how much suburban commuter traffic uses these roads. The roadways need to be reconfigured as multi-mode active transportation - along with motorized use - corridors. If that causes...

American Repertory Theater | 175 North Harvard Street | Allston

I really, really like this building. The exterior design of the first two floors (which are hidden by trees in this photo) could have been better with a dark bronze or dark brown metallic fascia, but aside from that rather minor hiccup, it is fantastic.

I have to disagree. Most of the DCR parkways are actually parkways, consisting of an arterial road providing access to substantial multi-use park corridors. Memorial Drive is one of those. The arterial road you refer to is just one of several key uses of the parkway corridor, along with bicycles...

    Weston infill and small developments

One very smart thing Baltimore did decades ago was cancel several expressways which would have carved up downtown and ruined a good part of the waterfront. So, they do have a relatively highway-free urban core.

It's a parkway. So it's crazy to require 12' lanes and 8' shoulders. This is not an interstate expressway, it's a multi-use corridor, a parkway. I'm a civil engineer who designed roads on National Parks, road projects which were federally funded. All kinds of design exceptions were made to...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

I suspect the commuter rail to Nashua will happen many years before any MBTA LRT or HRT extensions. It just seems that commuter rail expansion generally has less NIMBY opposition and is less costly to construct.
