    Framingham grade crossings

Why wouldn't this work (apologies for the chicken scratch map): In purple is my proposed rail bridge, elevated to pass over Concord/Irving Street. The approach from the east is approximately 2,000 ft from Bishop/Beaver Street. The approach from the west is approximately 2,750 ft from Fountain...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

There's a broad consensus that supports double tracking the Old Colony Line through Dorchester by shifting the Red Line junction south of Savin Hill. That double tracking is necessary for quality service expansion and improvement to the South Shore and Cape Cod. How likely is it that such a...

    Biking in Boston

We might be misunderstanding each other. I'm saying the best approach is to on the books ban Class III e-bikes, so that if one is behaving inappropriately on a Class III e-bike on a multi-use trail, that is a more formal infraction to discourage their usage, but if one is acting in a way that's...

This seems like the appropriate approach to me. What's the problem with this approach?

My related hot take is that the highest value per dollar investment for the Route 2 corridor is rebuilding Porter’s Commuter Rail station with full high level platforms. So much time savings to/from Boston by lowering the massive Porter dwell times.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Chicago is such a big city! This extension will bring the CTA Red Line to 27.4 miles, with no branches, surpassing the CTA's Blue Line (26.9 miles without branches) for longest in their system. The MBTA Red Line is 17.5 miles from Braintree to Alewife. If it were extended along/under the...

Belmont Community Path, Phase 1 is targeting a project advertisement date in September. Hopefully soon, we'll have a high quality off-road route between Belmont Center and Lechmere.

I agree. This would give a 1.6 miles of continuous multi-use trail where trail users would have the right-of-way, at least in theory. Unfortunately, the theory doesn't always match reality.

I love the addition of protected bike lanes on Elm, especially between Beech and Cutter. That is a major bike corridor between Davis/Tufts/Teele/West_Somerville/Medford_Hillside and Mass Ave and points south (Cambridge, Back Bay, Fenway, Allston, Brighton, etc). I love the redesigned Beech/Elm...

    MBTA Construction Projects

Thanks for the link! Here are the biggest projects for those who aren't sifting through: Green Line Extension (construction), $2.12B North Station Draw 1 Bridge Replacement (design), $1.29B Red / Orange Line Vehicles (construction), $1.22B Green Line Type 10 Vehicle Replacement Program...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

There are definitely lines that run mostly full trains on weekends and should easily have frequencies improved. For example, the Providence Line is quite full most weekends on roughly once every two hour frequency. 90 minute frequency on the Providence Line on weekends should be a no-brainer.

    Biking in Boston

It's such a tricky space because I don't want to discourage a mode shift away from automobiles, but I recognize that many humans on a class III e-bike will choose to go its max speed even if they aren't "supposed to" and we both know speed enforcement is a joke. If a 20 mph speed limit on a...

    Biking in Boston

I hope you didn’t take my post as an implicit approval of the types of disrespectful behavior you posted, which I’m sure we all agree are not okay and fully outside the purview of this discussion. Bad actors can be on any mode of transportation. This discussion is about which vehicles should be...

    Biking in Boston

From the sounds of it, we both have similar lived experiences of what micromobility usage is like in mixed traffic with automobiles. We could have a long discussion about mixed use trails and at what speed capability a vehicle becomes inapporpriate to bring onto a multi-use. That would likely...

    Biking in Boston

It was a mistake to give so much of our land to automobiles. Just because Maseratis is school zones is normalized doesn’t mean society is better for it. It would be a mistake to allow the same to happen on multi-use trails, with vehicles that can travel over 40 mph.

    General Infrastructure

The biggest thing Boston could do (and should, in my opinion) is to shift more sidewalk clearing from private responsibility to municipal responsibility. In a perfect world, the city would be collecting data on sidewalk usage and any sidewalk above a certain threshold would fall under municipal...

Orange Line Extension to Roslindale/West Roxbury

I know I’m late to the discussion, but here’s how I’d see it in a Rozzie-only Orange Line extension: * 30 truncated Mattapan - Roslindale * 35 truncated Dedham Mall - Roslindale * 36 truncated Dedham Mall - Roslindale via West Roxbury VA * 37 eliminated (taken partially over by a 52 re-route) *...

    Roxbury Infill and Small Developments

This project is called The Parkline, with an address of 27 Dixwell St, and is in Jamaica Plain. Egleston (which has been my home for over a decade) is part Roxbury and part Jamaica Plain. The boundary with the greatest consensus (and the one used by the City of Boston) is Columbus Ave, and this...

    Congestion toll in Boston?

The idea is to implement it in the area that best fulfills the following: Overly congested with automobiles beyond what can be handled spatially by the existing street network Densely populated Very well served by mass transit from nearly all directions Easy to bound with entry points that...
