General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I don’t know if this is the best place to ask, but I didn’t want to start a new thread for it. Does anyone know if the 1978 PMT has been digitized or where I could find it in a library? The BPL site didn’t have it listed in their catalog, and I’m trying to find former T expansion plans. The 1974...

Definitely good, but ”rebranding” even as simple as one word would be expansive with the size of the CR system. Depending on how common (I don’t really know) key bus routes and communities are used, those could more easily be changed.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

On the topic of the route location, would running it via Chelsea be faster to getting to a new central station than the blue line to aquarium + a people mover or BL branch?

Would 60’ cars even be possible even with the loop closed? I feel like we should model them after Paris. Make them slightly longer and add another set of doors.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

From my 5 minute search, except until it went to a 2d map, I think continuous electrification should be possible on at least half of the line, and I’m sure a proper BEMU should be able to handle the remainder of the route.

I know it couldn’t be used as a test due to boarding heights, would would a BR class 745/755/756 (which is technically a FLIRT) adjusted for east coast standards (higher loading gauge, wider) work?

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

I mean, the main point of having the readers in the car is to allow all door boarding. Also, since you can’t really put readers at surface station. In terms of fare machines, I doubt we will see them put anywhere the don’t currently exist, save for maybe the D branch.

Is the T’s planned FY25 budget similar to the planed service reduction in 2021 or will it maintain current service levels?

This is incredible. Puts my small attempt at mapping all streetcars to shame lol.

I know they share car width, but do they share loading heights?

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

I’ve always thought an extension to Foxborough center would be a good idea, but if you are going all the way to Mansfield you might as well have at least some trains continue to Providence.

So the Red-Blue connector is dead again?

I think the Type 10s will be slightly taller IIRC.

Any idea what this means? Are they talking about the JFK-Harrison square split point or possible express tracks? Also unrelated, what are the odds the new blue line trains have either CBTC or at least walkthrough trains (since it’s the global standard at this point)?

Thank you! I have to ask though, does volume 1 exist?

Unrelated to current discussion but i want to ask. I found this post and was curious if anyone knew the title of the book and where to find it.

B&M Eastern Route Quad Tracking + Harbor Tunnel

I think it depends on the alternative, but I don’t know much about costs. If it was the preferred alternative which has it connecting with the Eastern Route around Oak Island, a grade crossing would have to be eliminated. this would require either an underpass or an overpass as well as the...
