Thanks to your Dad for his service. How long is the runway at Brunswick? I don't know how much of an FBO operation they have but I would see them as an emergency pit stop before Portland.

I don't know if you've seen it, but the Roux Institute actually has a barge crane onsite!

Flyer is right about the water table at the western end; that whole area is a sea of cattails. Trying to extend there would probably require putting both Western Ave. and the Turnpike into tunnels, which would be highly expensive and can we even do that these days with modern security concerns...

Skyline & Aerial photos | Portland

I have seen some maps where East Commercial actually exists (or existed)... as the road that goes to the sewage treatment plant at the other end of the Prom! But I agree that the Thames St. nomenclature seemingly came out of nowhere. I would have supported honoring the man who started the whole...

That's how I pronounce it; it hasn't existed long enough for a historic-type weird pronunciation (it was built around 2000, and the name came from a similarly-named street in the early Colonial era).

BIW had a ship repair facility here from roughly the mid-80's to 2000 or so. In that era, Thames St. and the Eastern Prom Trail didn't exist, and Commercial ended at a hard left turn onto India St. I remember, walking to work at Auto Europe from the parking lot we were using (I wish I had known...

Rock Row (née The Ridge, née Dirigo Plaza) | Westbrook, ME

Some screenshots (literally taken with my camera off the TV screen) from the Planning Board meeting for Y and YB. The condos are going to be 3BR, 2.5 Bath, each with a two car garage. The area between the buildings is intended to be like a woonerf, and that's where the garage will open to. The...

The lot Portlander indicated is the former train station site (if Google placemarks are to be believed). Perhaps, it could be that again, if we were to actually extend service north of Brunswick (cue lots of irresolvable discussion of Back Road vs Lower Road).

Seems likely. I know they won't, but it would be nice if they would install a fountain at the India St. end, similar to the one Jordan's had. You can see the vestiges of it inside the hedge circle in that last pic. Also, oooh! The sign for the U.S. Garage! I remember that (although I never...

    Portland Passenger Rail

The key takeaway from the article is that the landowner (the shopping center) is unconvinced. Whether that skepticism can be solved with money or would require something else is unstated.

And when the owners are unwilling to sell and one has far more money for lawyers than you want to spend on the project?

When did Riverfront close? I believe that was the last remnant of Beale Street BBQ. Edit: They aren't closed yet! They announced four days ago that they'll be closing on the 18th.

The Guiding Gull! That's a prize! Although I'm not sure that Congress St. from the Jetport is much slower than going all the way to 295 near Broadway.

    Windham Development Discussion

As a former resident of Windham, that extension of Manchester Road to White's Bridge is desperately needed, especially in the summer. There's no alternative to 302 other than going to Standish and taking Whites Bridge the whole way. Do we know where on Tandberg Trail those apartments are going?

    Amazon Distribution Center | Gorham

Some of the opposing residents think the "industrial Park" was a smokescreen for the Amazon plan all along. If you put it on the warehouse site, then the route into Portland and the Turnpike goes right through Gorham village. That's not helpful.

I saw the "rip it out and replace with bark mulch" coming, but definitely not the rock throwing!
