Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

No it's not. The T has allocated the resources for Focus50 and could choose to include items about pipe-dream capital projects in order to virtue signal and at least having something proposed if feddy bucks or state money suddenly became available. But no, the prevailing mindset in the team...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2026/09/19/metro/mbta-green-line-accessibility-51-million-project/ Globe article highlighting how the new Green Line C branch stations will not be future-proofed for 14 inch high/225ft long platforms, likely requiring significant amounts of the current construction...

Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

Probably not. Despite all the progress made on state of good repair it's very clear that the general organizational attitude is still very conservative.

If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

I made a similar map last year (I've been meaning to finish it by doing VT/NH/ME but haven't thus far). I included a lot more though.

    Platform screen doors.

That was clearly the motivation in Sofia, as I watched a few trains go by and none of them stopped quite at the same spot. I believe there's also some rolling stock heterogeneity which likely contributed to the decision. The main reason I wouldn't necessarily expect to see it here is...

    Platform screen doors.

They're common in new builds because there is near zero reason not to build your new line automated, and if you're doing that then PSDs make it way easier. I would hestiate to say that retrofits are becoming common though. Retrofitting automation/PSDs is something that even cities like Paris...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

This is an astonishingly small market. According to the Fall 2024 passenger counts, about 110 passengers per day boarding outbound between Wyoming Hill and North Wilmington. There's definitely an argument that this number could increase with better service, but if that ever happened you could...

Non MBTA buses, School buses, and electrification

I can't find the RFP right now, but MassDOT is looking at employing an external consultant to review the effectiveness of the TMA grant program.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I believe so, but that doesn't seem to have rolled out to the passenger counts when I last checked.

    Transit history/trivia quiz

Correct, it's self reported with seemingly minimal filtering. That's why I included it more as a bonus, the results are a bit silly and pointless since lots of things are near but not quite zero. I don't want to immediately say they are wrong, it is possible for example the RL was suspended...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I'm not aware of any publicly available ridership figures. The GL cars don't have APCs so it's entirely dependent on fare validations, a... deeply flawed method in the case of the GL.

    Transit history/trivia quiz

I'm back with more trivia, this time from the 2025 MBTA Passenger Survey. For each of the following access modes, which subway (Red/Green/Blue/Orange lines) station got the largest proportion of its riders from that mode? Modes: Walking Bike/Scooter/Micromobility Carpooled or dropped off...

    Gillette Stadium Transportation Improvements

My personal urban design preference is for stadiums to anchor shopping/recreational areas, similar to Patriot Place, but located just outside the urban core so the noise from games/concerts/events isn't disturbing residents. Bijlmer Arena in Amsterdam is a good example. By this metric, the...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

I don't get what's surprising. United's thing is that they are much more willing to take risks on routes with the goal of being the first and only airline to fly them when there isn't enough demand for another airline come in later.

    Fantasy T maps

The same reason it's not shown as one color in Munich, it's because it's a collection of services with distinct endpoints that, for the most part, only share relatively short sections. (Although with the service pattern I described it's not that short.)
