    Congestion toll in Boston?

💯 Can't emphasize your point enough. They provide an incredibly high value service, and are responsible for the safety of 100s of passengers each day. They should certainly be well compensated for this.

Liberty Mutual Tower | 157 Berkeley Street | Back Bay

Agreed, that's a great skybridge. Really, everything about the Echelon project turned out extremely well.

Liberty Mutual Tower | 157 Berkeley Street | Back Bay

I don't really have a problem with gerbil tubes. I actually think they are kind of cool. That one, in particular is nice in the way that it borrows from the Public Garden bridge.

    Congestion toll in Boston?

There is the G, but it's not all that great due to some very odd transfer connections. For the most part, and for most people, going from Brooklyn to Queens does involve Manhattan. But this is largely irrelevant. The theorized trip from Newton to Harvard Square that you presented would likely...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

It's roughly 3.6 track miles from North Quincy to UMass. But the article also reveals that the T had already increased speeds to 50 mph from Braintree to N Quincy, which I had not realized. Taken together, that's 8.8 miles, which is very significant.

    Congestion toll in Boston?

Is there a source for this claim you keep making that documents that it should be $6 billion, and also that some of that was earmarked for other purposes?

    Biking in Boston

My recollection is that it is part of a larger vision, dependent on the completion of the Mary McCormack housing rebuild. But I've also read that this little tiny section was built on the wrong side of the street, so Flynn may have stumbled into something that indeed made no sense, but only due...

    Biking in Boston

It was sort of re-surfaced in 2022, when they expected increased bike traffic coinciding with the month long Orange Line shutdown. This included some smoothing of areas damaged by tree roots, but I don't think it was something we should consider as a permanent fix. It is still significantly...

FTA: This is just fact finding, not any kind of proposal for you to pre-judge.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Culpepper and Worrell's antics are infuriating. They are not advocating for ideas that benefit the communities that they serve.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

I will say, based on what little is in the article, that the proposed route is probably fairly useful, especially with the associated feeder bus plan. That said, why do these dumb monorail proposals keep popping up? I was shocked that L.A. seemed to seriously consider a monorail for the...

    MA Liquor Laws

In a broad sense, yes? The auditor's purpose is to uncover waste, whether that be from outright fraud, poor policy implementation, or regulations that are inherently wasteful. In this case, she evaluated ways in which the regulations constrained economic activity and tax collection, or were...

    Biking in Boston

Although I absolutely hate what prompted all of this, I can't help but smile at how this installation by the city will essentially be the same thing that activists did with tape. The city should work to quickly add such designs throughout other dangerous sections of our road network. It's not...

    Green Line Type 10 Procurement

No, a level deck can hold more people than one with stairs. There are many good reasons to go with this design -- eliminating the stairs enhances safety and capacity.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Yeah, I've always thought this was too steep and lengthy a climb for many people who aren't regular bike riders. And even people who are fairly fit might have difficulty pushing a wheel chair or stroller up the hill. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say the bridge stops people from using the...

Wonderland Ballroom Redevelopment | 1290 Northshore Road | Revere

The street there is 1A, and not the kind of place that will get much pedestrian access. Realistically, there isn't much to be gained by trying to achieve such activation. And the other side of the parcel is hemmed in by the Blue Line tail tracks. Almost all pedestrians will access the building...

Nubian Ascends (Blair Lot) | 2164 Washington | Roxbury

The revised concept is highly disappointing. Just don't build it if the result of the process is something useless and ugly. And drop the word ascends from this project, because that squat suburban office park structure is doing anything but ascending.

I don't think very many people would see that as better than the current method.

It likely wouldn't be needed for center running bus lanes, as they tend to be fairly immune to violations.

    Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

Sure, both stations will be crowded after the game, but it's less of a challenge than Kenmore and Fenway after a Sox game. Crush load for an Orange Line train is 1,344. If the stadium capacity is 25,000, and every single fan uses the Orange Line, a total of 19 trains will be required to clear...
