MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

The Chairman of the MBTA should instead be showing up for the groundbreaking of the Red-Blue BLX project.

    Kendall/MIT Infill and Small Developments

I absolutely love the old factory buildings around Kendall Square and elsewhere, and am really happy they're rehabbing this one into residential. Perfect!

Are one-way streets the reason for 20th-century urban decay and why

Converting a one-way into a two-way street is a traffic calming measure, slowing traffic down and thus increasing safety for all modes. Also, such a conversion makes a street look less like a suburban highway, and more like a pedestrian and bicycle friendly urban street, providing a visual...

    The New Residential Conversion Thread

This Paul Rudolph tower at 133 Federal St was built right after the Travelers Building at 125 High Street (built in 1959 and demolished in 1988). The photo (below) of the Travelers building was posted by DZH22 on an aB thread in 2020, as it was being prepped for demolition. These two buildings...

    The New Residential Conversion Thread

This has always been one of my favorite Boston buildings, especially for its time, built in 1960. One of Paul Rudolph's best, IMO. Happy this is being put to a good re-use!

    Union Square D2.1 | 10 Prospect Street | Somerville

I like it. Crisp and clean, nothing crazy going on, just the right amount and types of colors to present a stylish, yet subdued facade. I prefer it to an all-glass tower at this location. Its clean vertical lines remind me a bit of the Alcott building near North Station:

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

What does the Fairmount Line infrastructure supporting "decarbonized" service mean? I assume its readying the corridor for the battery-electric multiple unit (BEMU) trains (which will start around 2030), including installing overhead catenary wires at South Station and Readville for the BEMUs...

North End Piazza on The Greenway | 198 Hanover Street | North End

What was there before had some color, variety, and some nice details, all of which the new building totally lacks.

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

That location for a waterfront park is actually ideal. Everett is becoming increasingly residential, and will continue on that trajectory with the impetus from the proposed stadium, the programmed foot bridge, and the Silverline extension. So, a waterfront park to serve the growing residential...

Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

I would like to see the government of Arlington work with it's counterpart in Lexington, and have both towns pass a sales tax to fund the RLX to Arlington Heights. Both towns would benefit, and both towns could help fund the project.

Megaprojects of the US & World

The budget argument is interesting. In the US, large infrastructure projects bounce around in a planning and development political echo chamber for years and years before anything real even begins to gets done. This results in greatly increased construction costs due to inflation and long...

    Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

A Awesome that they're actually going to build this.

    Biking in Boston

I'm almost 77 years old, still an avid biker (on a manually powered peddle bike, not an e-bike), and I do about 15 miles per trip, observing the traffic laws. Except, I do keep going, after looking around, through a signalized or stop sign controlled intersection without stopping, if it's...

Megaprojects of the US & World

China knows how to get things done. We could take some notes from their playbook and apply those streamlining principles to our planning and construction of projects.

    Whats left to build on?

I do love your plan, but as jklo mentioned above, the Federal environmental agencies probably would not like it. For example, the US Army Corps, along with opposition from a key stakeholder, sank (no pun intended) one project I was managing that would have restored a short stretch of washed out...

Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

I'm happy to see a revival of interest by Arlington in an RLX into their community. But I think an EIS and a detailed design for RLX to Arlington Heights were completed in the late 1970s, and I'm guessing the funding to build it could have been obtained from the Feds at that time, if not for the...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

I hope that any bus lane layout for Blue Hill Ave will be designed to accommodate future conversion to light rail, even though that would be decades off. At least lay out a plan now for bus and bike lanes which doesn't geometrically make it harder to put in LRT in the future.

One Mystic | 1 Mystic Avenue | Charlestown

Kind of a dark, forboding render. Reminds me of the post-apocalyptic scene in The Matrix movie:
