    Proposed watertown ferry

Certainly impractical as daily transportation, but if you live in or near Watertown and it's nice weather and you have time for a leisurely boat ride to Boston? Sure, why not? (Edit: they should stop referring to it as a "commuter ferry," though -- fully agreed on that)

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

This. Also, even with the open archways, those impressive arched ceilings are going to become fairly soot-covered sooner than I'd like to imagine (and given the T's horrible track-record of maintenance/cleaning, this could be awful -- unless maintenance of the arches come under the purview of...

My HS architecture teacher thought 1 Financial was a gorgeous example of ribbon fenestration. I quite like it from the "skinny sides" in a very '80s aesthetic way (especially now with the lighting at night), but the fat sides are pretty awful. Unfortunate that one of those fat sides gets some...

B, C, and D trains stop at Hynes, yes.

50 Herald Street | Chinatown / South End

Very true, though I enjoyed the "Dirty Old Boston"-ness of it.

50 Herald Street | Chinatown / South End

Good point. Mine was a largely selfish reaction, although I do feel that developments like this one speak to the increasing diminishment (that's a word, right?) of Chinatown.

50 Herald Street | Chinatown / South End

That's a bummer it closed. I'd occasionally go there for cooked duck eggs and wacky-flavored potato chips on my lunch break. There's another similar market just down the street, but still: a loss.

    The New Residential Conversion Thread

That's fascinating (to me), because I've spent my life assuming those *were* residential towers.

, unfortunately, the 9-5 prevents. WFH is great, but it won't allow for this. :( glad you got to go inside and up, though.

Tallest Buildings Out of the Ground and Growing

only vaguely (very vaguely) related, but every time I walk or drive by 1 Dalton, I can't believe the developers didn't grab that opportunity when they could have. Just add another 40 feet and you're the new tallest! I'm not even a height fetishest and that would've been exciting to me.

Metropolitan Storage Warehouse Redevelopment/Renovation (MIT) | 134 Mass. Ave | Cambridge

Absolutely nothing about this project is “cheap.” And the windows look great imo.

One Congress is the most meaningful addition -- of many -- these past 10-15 years. Finally a world-class, non-puritanical/conservative design on a tall (tall-ish...) highrise. And the night-time lighting is stunning. I hope a new construction boom happens sooner than later and that we get some...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Per your friend and mine, AI (sarcasm): The dramatic "uplighting" of the Berkeley Building's entire facade (the Old John Hancock) was a special architectural feature introduced in the early 2000s that has since been discontinued for a combination of environmental and economic reasons. The...

View Boston (Observatory) | Prudential Tower | Back Bay

I think they (reasonably) would expect that with *no* indoor observation deck, their attendance/profit (other than special events in the indoor observatory space) would be essentially zero from early november to late march.
